P14 distance shooter and scope mount options

I know the gun has it's limitations but i have a couple sporterized P14's and I would like to set one of them up for 500-600 yards. Do I stand a chance at any decent grouping at this range? If i get decent results, it would be put to use hunting deer and coyote at those distances. Most of the hunting i do is in the bush and my Mk4 does great sighted in for 200 yards (dropped a doe at 225 last year), but it would be nice to have one set up for a longer accurate shot. I'm thinking about a deer stand at my friends place that overlooks a clover field for 600-700 yards.
I would try factory ammo but i am also not against reloading... once i have the gun set up.

What do you guys think of the S&K scope mount for the P14? Where can i order one from in Canada?

I plan on keeping one P14 as a longer shooter and doing a full wood resto on the other. To be clear, I'm aware that these actions can be rebarreled and set up in all kinds of configs and calibers, i am more interested in seeing what the stock config can do with a decent scope. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences

I don't see why you couldn't, but you will have to shoot it a lot to memorize your dope out to those distances. These rifles were built with the idea of neutralizing 200lb targets out to those ranges. If it is bedded properly and you use a good handload I don't see where it is too far fetched. Obviously you will need a good solid scope mount (hopefully its already been drill and tapped if you are thinking of this!) and decent optics for hunting that far. Also would need to shoot from a rest. Wounding animals really really sucks.

Another thing is that the rifle isn't exactly stock if it has been cut down. In order to shoot as intended they really need to be in military trim as they were designed. That being said I dont own a P14 nor do I know how they were bedded, so maybe you will be alright. I'm sure someone on here knows for sure and can point you in the right direction. I know my Lee-Enfield sporters, even the one converted by Parker-Hale, all seem to really suffer accuracy wise after about 300 yards. I don't think its me, I can repeatedly hit a 1 gallon milk jug with my savage model 12 223 at 500 yards.

Well - You can shoot a 303 out to 600 y, if you know what you are doing... You can load a p-14 to max without much fear, to benefit things. Bedding arrgt is the standard Mauser style - these rifles tend to shoot quite well if reasonably bedded.
The S+K mount can only be used with a stock receiver bridge - many sporters have had the bridge shaved down. They work quite well, although the ring to ring distance is quite short. I ordered mine directly from S+K a few years ago...

I have used the S&K mounts and have sold quite a few at one time or another. They are really the Cat's meow for an unaltered receiver.

For a load, try 40 grains of 4064 with a Hornady Spire Point 150, seated so that the whole cannelure shows.

This is just about .308 level and it is accurate; my rifle gets just over half an inch at 125. That gives you under 3 at 600.

Should be accurate enough.

BTW, avoid boat-tail bullets in the P-14. They have Enfield rifling, which is at its best with flat-base bullets.

You might want to figure out how much energy you are putting out at that distance before you get too crazy. Hitting something at that range is a feat, but humanely putting down the game is another ball of string entirely. There was a post in Sporting and hunting rifles about "Sighting in for Cariboo at 700 yds" or something along that line.
A fellow was posting ( expounding in my opinion ) about what it took to do this feat. Sounded knowledgeable ( although slightly pretentious) until someone pointed out that they were borderline on energy to get the job done right.
Pretty funny on a comeback level, but brought up a very valid point.
Edit. Myself; I consider the distance too far for game but if you'd made that shot against an armed combatant and enemy of Canada and I'd buy you drinks all night long...and later boast of meeting you and shaking your hand.
Then again, I very well could be crazy
