Lucky me, I was digging through some of my grandpa's old stuff and came across a complete top and bottom stock set with band and nose cap etc. by the looks of it, it's for a P14. I have always wanted to restore an old Enfield and like the P14/M1917.
Will the stock set fit either rifle? Where are the stampings supposed to be located to identify it's origin/manufacturer if possible?

Thanks, Joel

Eddystone P14 fatBoy stock. No finger grooves and notched for volley sights. It has been DP marked but wood has been professionally patched where the brass tag used to be on the butt and where they drilled through the original barrel between upper and lower stock.

Thanks for the pointers for giving me something to look for.

The stock should fit without too much trouble onto a M1917 (the magwell area will need the most attention), and the front handguard will fit no problem, however, the rear handguard for a P14 will not fit onto an M1917. The chamber block on the M1917 is longer then the P14 (obviously b/c of the longer case). Because the handguard is already so thin, removing any more material would weaken it too much. Plus the metal on the inside if sized for the P14 as well.

M1917 was missing its handguards, and I too had a full P14 stock set, but b/c the rear handguard wouldn't fit, and I didn't want to split up the matching P14 set, I bought some 'new' old manufacture handguards.

My recommendation is to keep your eye's open for a sported P14 and snatch it up. Good luck

hmmm... I just bought a lot of Enfield wood - seller told me the rear HGs were for No4's - well to my surprise they are for the M1917??? Might be able to help you out soon. I am waiting for a shipment of P14 and P17 wood from (of all places) Austria - yup - bought 3 complete sets for $500 CAD (about 300 Euros) - however, the 2 P17s and RE P-14 waiting for new furniture will be worth it! That said, I might have a couple of handguards left over - so I'll keep you tagged.
Cheers
