P14 mag issues

I recently acquired a Winchester P14 and finally got the chance to shoot it today. It seems every time you have a round (or more) in the mag and fire a round, the mag floorplate falls out. Doesn't fall out when you just fire one round with the mag empty. Anyone else have this issue? I tried doing a search and couldn't come up with much.

Also, any word on available full wood stocks? I couldn't find any on Numrich.

Floorplate catch likely is burred, letting the floorplate slip when there is enough presssssure on the thing. Remove burr and dress the mating surfaces flat.

SARCO definitely has stocks for the M-1917, at least. Saw them advertised in Shotgun News not long ago. A bit pricey but a lot better than no wood. Most metal parts for the M-1917 also work okay on the P-'14, with the exception of magazine boxes, followers and a couple of other bits.

Skennerton's book, "The US Enfield", contains detailed descriptions of the interchangeability of parts between the P14 and M1917. There are a number of P14 components which are listed as non-interchangeable among the 3 manufacturer's( Remington, Winchester, and Eddystone). These include magazine cases and bottom plates. In reality most of these can be made to fit with minor tweaking. Could be the floorplate or mag catch is burred or has a build-up of grease/dirt which is interfering with correct lock-up. The M1903 Springfield uses a similar mag catch which can cause trouble from time to time. As an aside, the mag spring and follower from the US M1917 Enfield is interchangable with that of the M1903 Springfield.

If you decide to shorten the magazine well an 1903 Springfield trigger can be swapped as well............Harold
