P14 mounting solutions?

I am looking for a solution to mounting optics on a P14 or M17 receiver? I have been advised that possibly an older Savage mount with the flat back may work. (The rear of the bridge is also machined flat, and sits a little lower than the front receiver ring.) I can always go with a set of FN mauser 2 piece weaver mounts, and make that work, but I would prefer a nice rigid 1 piece, and possibly a shim.
Any ideas?

I've heard the "why bother? Go buy a Remington" too many times already.

Nope, except that one hole on the rear bridge that already existed. To make like easier, I was going to find a suitable mount, then have the receiver professionally drilled to match the mount.

S&K scope mounts

I believe S&K make scope mounts for these rifles that don't require any gunsmithing. Check their website.

Good Luck!

Here's a chart from Weaver that might help.

Kell2784, Too bad the rear bridge was milled flat. Does it still have original barrel on it? Reason I ask is, I contour P14 and M17 receivers to match a Remington or Winchester bridge, but barrel has to come off to do it. The original barrels are very hard to take off, usuall have to cut. If it has been rebarreled, then it should come off easy, and receiver can be re-contoured. Then you just use bases for Rem or Win.

My P14 was drilled and tapped by BSA when they sporterized it.
I went with Leupold bases and rings, and also have a P17 with Weaver bases and rings. You could probably have it drilled and tapped by any one of a number of gunsmiths. Farrel also makes a really nice 1-piece base for them.

Yes, the original barrel has been removed. Can a rem or win contour still be machined from the rear bridge. It has been milled flat down to the top of that oval recess. (Basically just the ears have been removed.)

Thanks for the input.

My BSA-sporterized P-14 has a Williams #35 base on the front and a #35 on the rear, if that's any help. The rear one had to be shimmed a little- .030" IIRC.

Yes, it can.
I charge $120 to do a receiver from original. In this case it would be half of that.
