Well its been quite a few years in the making, Finally was able to acquire a full length stock. Just ordered the middle band assembly as well, My question is: Is there any special technique to removing the front sight housing? I removed the pin but the housing itself wont seem to budge. Any suggestions? Big hammer? I think I will refinish the stock to get the wood as close to matching as I can.

I have found some P14 front sights to be soldered on so you may need to heat it up first, others are rusted on. But be warned if you hit it too hard they have a habit of cracking.

Reminds me of the time I had to replace the flash hider sight off of my Jungle Carbine.

Might want to consider getting a replacement front sight on order just in case. It could take much heating up and smacking with a mallet.

I ordered back up metal for all parts I could today when I ordered the middle band, I'll give it another go

I saw this delema on another thread not that long ago. One fellow with welding skills, made a loose fitting clamp and used a pitman arm puller and a penny to go on the muzzle. I used a pitman arm puller with part of another puller to go behind the sight and a machined piece of brass for the muzzle (I have a lathe) to pull my P14 sight. Worked slick.

I always cringe when I hear of the hammer and punch method. After spending so much time gathering those hard to find parts, what's a little more time to make a puller work.

I once saw the armorer's manual for the M1917 believe it or not tapping the front sight assembly with a piece of wood was what was specified. There is a metal spline that alines the sight assembly with a slot in the barrel that is friction albeit tightly fitted.

A puller with a little jig that wraps around the barrel behind the sight works well. The bigger hammer and drift is great until the damage is done.

I had a thread a few weeks back, I was having the same issue with my front sight. Some guys on here had developed sight pullers, but I had no way of fabricating one. I end up just cutting the front site off.

Obvious question; why do you need to remove the front sight unit and run the risk of causing some damage in the process?

My reason was to put the sight on another barrel.

Where did you source the screws and assorted metal bits?

I'm looking to find a few band/stock screws to finish up a project of mine as well.
