WOW! What a nice pair. Where did you come by that stock for your P17?

I checked mine last night...the only '*' I could find is on the ejector spring on the bolt. Which is mismatched to the rest of the rifle.

Anyone know if the upward facing arrows on it are Winchester marks?

At Lee's Gun Parts in Irving Texas. It is un-issued WWII replacement wood and I got it right around Christmas a few years ago. He also had a replacement barrel in the factory wrap! I love that store but have to take a vaccation day to go there.

Consider yourself lucky. I'm on the search for stock set for mine and am turning up diddly squat. Well, I can get one, used and dinged up and $160 plus tax. Part of my problem is that I live in a rural area and there aren't many local gun shops...none that have milsurp stock.

I'm hoping a local gun show or two will turn up some leads.

Took barrel/receiver out of stock with pics

I was bored so I took it apart tonight after work...before supper and on the kitchen table no less. I'm still amazed that this thing is in such nice shape. I just wanted to see and oil it. I had momentary thought of cleaning up and oiling the stock while I wait for a full length one to come along, but I decided not to waste time on it. Besides it seems to have a thin finish on it...shellac maybe or varnish.

I thought the barrel was original, but one pic shows a misaligned chisel strike. The serial no's are identical and the fonts match. Any ideas?

I'm amazed at how clean it was. Whoever had it kept it CLEAN. Not even any dust in the mag and the underside of the action is mint. I know a lot of these rifles saw little use in battle...if any. But I'm surprised that this rifle is almost perfect. Did they re-blue during the Weedon program?

Anyone tell me anything about the stamps?

Yah, my P14 has grooves in the fore end too.
It's been bobbed but I have no reason to believe the stock has been swapped.
But I suppose the groove could have been added by whoever did the stock.

You've still got the long range sight rear aperture I see. Is that a low number Eddystone rifle?

Why yes, yes it is. 1###, if I recall correctly. :)

Hijackers! Haha, I'm kidding.

You guys are talking about the rear volley sight. Nice, I never noticed it before when I looked at the pic of Paatz's rifle. Good eye.

I don't think I'll be putting volleys back on mine. I guess what I'm thinking is I'd like to restore it to WWII condition after these sights were removed.
