P14 Tanky Tanker Project 80% Done: Bubba'd

Not sure if I've ever seen a p14 tanker but I plan to make one.
Picked up this Lovely short barreled sporter off the EE a few days ago, Chambered in.... Tanky 45-70.
A few months back I picked up the beat up looking p14 above it. It was missing the bolt, Rear sight was bent, And front sight is a little loose. and stock is fairly dinged up as well but doesn't appear to be cracked anywhere.
So Yes, I am going to bubba a full length P14 stock
I'll have to take some material out of the barrel channel on the upper handguards and the stock but there is quite a bit there to work with.
Shorten the stock and regroove a spot for the nose cap. and the most forward top handguard, The rear should be fine.
Remove metal from the inside of the nose cap to fit the wider barrel.
The only think I think that will look a bit off is the new style front sight on the barrel, I may open up the top of the nose cap to hug the front sight ramp and hide it a little bit.
It should be a fun little project that shouldn't take too long, Maybe even just the weekend, But I'll keep you guys in the loop

Rather than ruining a relatively intact P14 (bolts are easy to find) why wouldn't you just stretch the stock on the sporter and put the splice under the mid band?

Please don’t chop that stock! Lots of people are looking for one, they are very hard to find intact, regardless of condition!

You could probably sell that original stock set, bands, etc. and buy an aftermarket replacement full length stock and have no guilt.

Your full length P14 stock has no finger grooves. I am not sure about that - perhaps is an unusual variant - Eddystone "Fatso"? - if so, there might be a serial number or partial serial number stamped in that long stock barrel channel - might want to research that before sawing it. As mentioned, might be worth a bit of coin to someone ... Not certain that the front hand guard belongs with the rear one or the long stock - might be interesting to look for maker's marks, inside. The lower band appears to be installed backwards - the screw should enter from the left - like on the upper band. The offset sling swivels should have their "off set" to the right of centreline of the rifle. Missing the "stacking swivel", so is not actually complete. All the metal components for the stock, except screws, pins and that key-stock under the front sight, will (or should) have maker marks, and should all be same maker as that stock - to be "all matching".

Alternatively - I believe that replacement P14 stocks were made by British contractors, in Britain, during WWII - but that one has the volley sight cross screw - so is likely an actual WWI made stock.

The sporter stock on it now has been sanded down on the sides much thinner than it would have been originally.

As for the stock the original, they can be tricky for sure, there is one in the EE right now I believe for cheaper than a reproduction is going for, and both are still more than I paid for this rifle.

I'll go look in my storage unit today as I know I have a few more sporter stocks in there, but that still leaves finding a close enough blank to make the extension and tracking down another rear handguard, I don't think numrich is shipping to Canada since covid. I probably have enough spare hardware to do all the metal.
But I had come to peace with with a little bubbary that would have made this project 10x easier.

Edit: I do see prestige sells a nose repair section and the upper hand guards, so I'll see what ones I have in the storage unit.
I still think it would cost as much as this stock is selling for. The full length repro stock is way to expensive to go that route.

Saw that, shoulda coulda woulda, but my imagination let me down. I believe in the concept of private property, so chop away if you want, but there are aftermarket options, including the guy from Sask that does new wood (LEs for sure, not positive on P14/17s), but a nice new stock would look awesome (just my .02$)

I like the idea although I have a p14 that I need a stock handguard and components for sadly but if I could have got my hands on a cut down never one Mark III I would have make a tanker enfield, I liked the pictures I've seen

Well if it makes anyone feel better the stock did have a decent crack in it I'll need to repair and was also mismatched.

I'll dig out a de sporterized p14 I did 10-12 years ago and post a photo so I don't get classed as a full bubba.

The p14 I got was sporterized already and I rescued a m1903, buddy cut the lower stock right underneath the rear band, I drilled and put a dowel in, but have a secondary stock that needs fitting and 2 handguards for it, incase I need it

Well contrary to most peoples advice I became bubba, Iam about 80% done at this stage, a few items require additional fitting. I'll be sending the metal bits out for cerakote once I have it just where I want it, Not overly happy how the forward top handguard turned out, I may craft a new one with the piece I took off the stock. Top rear handguard has a little play up and down I'll try and snug up as well(if anyone has any heat proof ideas) I think this will make an excellent trailer/Camp gun when all is said and done. And I quite like it!

So I added another p14 in the photos I brought back from bubba to make up for my own bubba'ing.
