So I have a P17 (BSA RTF registered as an Enfield) tucked away in the back of my Cabinet that needs some TLC, which means it's perfect for a project since it's been bubba'd already past any hope or restoration (cut barrel and civvies sights installed). I was thinking it would be fun to do some work to it...at low $$$ making the only real cost be a second stock and the sand paper. Where would one go and what would all you recommend (finishing idea's appreciated)? I'm looking to make this gun lighter so its better in the bush. A synthetic stock is what I'm thinking, but I don't know where I would look for one.
As of this moment my plan are as follows. Remove the Action and barrel. Clean and Sand the metal to remove the remaining bluing and the surface rust from pitting, then Cold Blue the metal and then tape it up to hide the cold bluing if it's a really ugly job. Then place into the new stock. I'm not after really pretty just want to make it so the gun is nicer to use as a bush/truck/backup rifle as it was purchased to be and not a safe queen that it's become. So any help would be appreciated including ideas on what do do to it.
I can add pictures but we all know what the bubba'd ones look like. Though I will take pictures of it through out the process to see just how poorly I do the job. Oh the faith I have in my skills.
Cheers
CK.
