With all the crummy news today, I figured I should take my latest addition to the safe out for a quick shoot. That latest addition happens to be a nice new P220 Legion in my 2nd favourite pistol calibre: 10mm.

Obviously the Legion has great fit and finish, and feels like a rather premium gun. In saying that, I think it will take some getting used to. The slide stop is quite tiny compared to any other Sig I have, and while the X-Ray sights allow for quick acquisition, they certainly took some getting used to vs. the classic Von Stavenhagen sights on all my other Sigs.

Overall, I really like the aggressive G10 grips and substantial front strap checkering. They certainly make gripping the gun more manageable while chucking boulders downrange. The weight of the gun is certainly no joke, being 44 oz. It does not feel out of balance, though, and it certainly soaks up the recoil. The P-SAIT trigger is also top notch.

I'm a firm believer in only shooting standard power 10mm, none of this downloaded 'mildly hotter than .40" crap. So I shot Sig Elite 180 gr. FMJ, and Buffalo Bore Heavy Outdoors 220 gr cast, with 624 ft lbf and 703 ft lbf, respectively.

Once I figured out my sights and aiming, this gun was honestly great to shoot, and incredibly accurate. I found the Sig Elite ammo very manageable to shoot, and reasonably easy to string multiple shots with decent accuracy. The Buffalo Bore was certainly manageable, however if I had to string shots with any speed into a small target it would be quite difficult for me.

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. It will absolutely be replacing my Glock 20 as my 10mm go to, and may even make an appearance at a 3 Gun competition this summer. Set the big popper at any angle you like, the 10mm hammer of Thor will knock er down!

Ditto. very nice. the Sigs are definitely built to shoot those heavy loads.

I really like the Legion line, and the all-steel construction of the 10mm P220 appeals to me, too. I also need a companion to the Bren Ten that I can shoot more often. Once the gun fund is replenished I’m hoping to get one myself later this year.

Looks great! The Sig is definitely on my 'to buy' list since I want a 10mm, but don't want a 1911 version. Unfortunately it's out of my price range for now, but I'm willing to pay the premium so that it doesn't have stupid camo on it like the P220 Hunter has.

Good on you for not settling for less with the ammo. As it's been said, 10mm is definitely a reloader's cartridge.

She is a beauty. Not sure I can afford to shoot 10mm factory ammo.

This from the guy who traded a 1911 for 5 bottles of scotch, and then drank them all...lol.

Still my favorite trade. Other than when I think what an 18 year old bottle of Macallan Sherry Cask is worth now....then it stings a little.

Sorry for the derail. I do love my Sigs, but my budget doesn't include a 10 mm right now. If I was getting one though, that would be it ^

Yup.....best trade ever for sure. The sad part.....the Macallan 18 was my least favourite of the bunch. The Glendronach single cask was delicious.

I agree, and I still have 3 unopened bottles of the Glendronach Tawny Port Cask 18 year old....at one point I had 8....lol.

Thread derail. But somehow talk of beautiful Sigs and Whisky are related for me. I'd love to trade some whisky for a 10mm Legion!

Beautiful. That was going to be my next gun but I got distracted and I'm saving my money for a SIG Cross at the moment. I'm jelly.

Why not just own a 40? Nice gun though

Because this one isn't Short & Weak. ;)

The only thing I look at when buying 10mm ammo is its muzzle energy. If it isn't 600+, I'm not buying it, ha.

Very nice! Is that a standard Sig length, or a 5"?

I have a P220 10mm Scorpion Emperor...it is definitely royalty among handguns.

It is a 5" barrel. I love the Scorpion line. Never owned one, but man are they fine...

After buying it, I can't either. So I just fill my 3 mags with ammo for my range shoot, and call it good after that for now. I'll get reloading this winter.

Nothing & I mean nothing will compete w/ the SIG P220R5 10mm.

Built like tanks w/ a flimsy trigger return tab would be the S&W 1006/1076's.

Any linked or striker fired only compares on the interweb.

I have 6 of the 7 models of SIG P220R5 10mm.
The Ugly Duckling SAO Kryptec Hunter & Emperor Scorpion DA/SA are my work horses as the others are NIB's.

Act-Mag 8rd & 10rd P220 45 ACP magazines function flawlessly w/ the 10mm.

SIG P220 Match Elite 5" & std 4.4" & 22LR Cal X Change kit top end assy's function on the 10mm frames.

P220 R5 10mm top ends will NOT fit/function on a alloy frame P220.

You need to post a family pic of the 10s!
