p226 .22lr vs m&p22

My choice is between both of these pistols.. already shot both in 9 and 40, im more interested in the p226 but i wanna know your opinion guys, since its really time for me to buy a .22 handgun.

i wanna know pro's and con's for these pistols. I heard we can buy a 9mm slide and mags to convert the p226 into a 9mm pistol, can we do the same for M&P22?

Price and reliability is my main concern!
 
I had a P226 22 which was a fine gun. Very picky on ammo, slide doesn't lock back after last round and mag is plastic. The M&P 22 is a dedicated .22 made by Walther and nothing is interchangeable with big brothers. It has a hidden internal hammer, fixed barrel, slide locks back and mag is aluminum. From what I read the M&P eats most .22 ammo. Both are reliable and high quality but I would go with M&P and save approx. $200. However, if you plan to get a P226 9mm/40 in the future than buy the P226 .22 and get centerfire conversion kit. That in effect is like getting both for the cost of P226 9/40 alone.

I think you pretty much covered it. But, my P226 22 eats any high velocity ammo I have tried so far. Federal bulk, CCI mini mag and Winchester 333/555. Finding mags for the M&P 22 will be a problem if you want extra's is another factor. They are scarce apparently.
 
M&P 22 mags are scarce right now but not impossible to find. You just have to pick them up when available. I think I have a dozen BNIB downstairs.
 
I have extended magazine followers for my .22 conversion to make the slide lock back on last round. It also shot pretty much anything I gave it but I've heard other people complain about them being picky about ammo. Never shot the M&P but really like my SIG.
 
Just hope your m&p doesn't break, you will probably not see it again for at least 1 year. I know its not on your list but have you thought of the GSG 1911?
 
I think the Browning 1911-22 would be a worthy mention here. mags are easier to find and the gun is very high quality manufacturing
from what I hear they eat all ammo without issue

I bought one today before seeing this thread. I've had an eye out for the M&P22 for a few months now. With the good base price and the 10% off along with free shipping it was time.
