P226 DA Trigger Weight Modification

The DA 12lb pull of the P226 trigger is a bit much for my weak hand only. (Need to strengthen my hand obviously, working on that). Is is possible to modify the DA pull weight of the trigger and still stay within the IPSC Producion Division.

This is a German P226 refurb pistol.
 
You can install a weaker hammer spring but run the risk of light strikes on some ammo brands. Not sure the ipsc rules on spring swapping?

SRT has no effect on trigger weight just reset

No the E2 hammer strut does but many not fit a German SIG with the old style Spring base. Also the E2 internals only drop the DA only by a 1lbs if that.

Thx cbabes for the confirmation, (those are from Appendix D and E in the IPSC rulebook for the non IPSC guys). Do Production guys routinely mod their pistols to a ~5lb pull to make it easier to get off those DA shots?

Yes sir. Getting right to 5 is pushing it close as the trigger can lighten with use but lighter springs is the first thing most do to their Shadows (most common production gun around here). I shoot a Tanfoglio Stock 2 and now have he Eric Grauffel lighter hammer and firing pin spring that is made by Tanfoglio and legal.

Appreciate the info. I'll investigate my options regarding what parts I can get and the pull weight I'll need. I have just taken the course and have yet to compete, need more practice and as I said hand strength needs to be worked on but I look forward to putting my name in for a match soon.
 
Some polishing and a lighter hammer spring are the ticket. You can experiment with different springs to see how light you can go without getting light primer strikes. The polishing however will improve the pull tremendously.
 
Also, if its older it will have the longer hammer spring which stacks as you pull the trigger, the newer shorter style spring and newer mainspring seat and hammer strut will help along with a lighter spring. But seriously, polishing the internals greatly improves the DA pull.

That's great info, thanks. I'll have to investigate exactly how old my Sig is. I got it last Dec when all those German refurbs hit the market.
 
I bought a Spyderco set off amazon that came in a leather pouch. I also use Flitz metal polish with a Q-tip. Just make sure to clean off all residue when finished. I also use TW25 grease on all sliding parts. All this adds up real nice.

Bad idea and when the spring wears it will cause light strikes. Look up how to bounce a spring, its the best way to lighten it. It was suggested to us on my SIG armoures course by the SIG customs shop guy.
