P226 failure to lock open

Hey out there. A quick question, it may be nothing, but here goes.

I have a Sig P226 in .40. I have 2 factory mags, and am shooting Federal 180's.

I have never had a problem with it, but the last couple times I've been shooting I have had intermittent failures of the slide locking open after the final round. Both mags do it occasionally, I have recently cleaned them both as well.

NOTE - the last few times out have been in the cold, and the problem seems to go away after a few rounds i.e., put 5 through the first mag, won't lock open, change out quick, and put 5 or 10 more through the next and it will lock open.

Could it simply be from the cold?

yeah happens to me all the time too. dont leave your thumb on the relese lever and youll be fine.

Damn, now I feel silly - that could totally be it, never even thought about that because its never happened before...good thing I'm hitting silverdale again tomorrow to test this, otherwise it would drive me bat$hit crazy.

As a 1911 lover, I tend to favor the high thumb myself and my NP-22 Sig copy never locks open after the last shot because my thumb is up there.

Try firing strong hand only and if it stops having the problem you know what caused it. I put my right thumb over the joint of my left thumb to stop this.

You could also fire left hand only which will eliminate any chance of riding the slide lock.
