Hey there,

In a few weeks (october 16-17) there will be some IPSC in my local range. I'll be able to see what is actually is (I've seen some videos and read some rules and stuff, but nothing beat seeing the real thing :)).

If I like what I see, I'll probably take the Black Badge course; I was wondering what would be good gear (Holster, mag pouch, belt?) for a P226R just to give me an idea of price to gear up.

Thanks :D

Depending on how much you want to spend, it can vary.

Bladetech offset holsters are the best Kydex ones out there and are used more than anything else. They normally run about $70.

Mag pouches is a personal thing, many like the kydex double pouches but most use a safariland type of pouch.

Do not buy anything with a retention strap or snaps as you will end up cutting them off. If your equipment has them you must use them.

For about $100 you are set up except for the belt. A good stiff leather belt or ones like CR Speed sell are normally what you see on the line.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I'll second the Bladetech gear. Fancy 'race' holsters for Sigs are uncommon and pricey. I like the CR mag pouches, but for starting out just get anything kydex (CR, bladetech, ghost, even fobus will do).

CR belts or other 2 piece belt is good, though you could start with anything. As long as it sfely holds the gun & gear you're ready to go. Belts come in different widths - if you're going to buy one make sure your gear will fit.

I use the Serpa for my 226, on a dutybelt with a couple of double mag holders, that will do you. Sometimes the surplus stores have the mag holders, cut the covers off and then you do not have to button them up. The CR ghost is a fast holster, but prone to letting the gun drop out if not applied properly. As you are just getting into the sport, get a holster that will hold the gun in place firmly.

Many people use a inner and outer belt combination - E.G.: Safariland; CR Speed - to speed the daily holstering-up process. This isn't necessary. All you need is a sturdy gun belt properly sized to your holster, pouches and pant loops. (If you are buying, I'd suggest considering 1.5") You will want at least three magazine pouches, and four or five would be better. (Look at Safariland, CR Speed, and Blade-Tech.) Most holsters and pouches will be made of Kydex. Many Production shooters will opt for the Blade-Tech DOH. While not really concealable, it is a IPSC-competitive option.

You'll probably pay about $250.-$350.

I've got the Bladthech Holdtser and the 360 Gost Mag pouch times 5 with a good stiff competition belt. You need minimum 4 mag pouches but 5 is better. Some prefer 6 but have it on a magnet pouch. Tritium Truglo Fiber optic front sight and rear night sight.

I've been using P226s for IPSC for 20 years and I have a shelf full of holsters - and I currently use a Bladetech. Their mag pouches are pretty good too. Real trick is actually the belt, I use a Hellweg but one of the Bianchi or Safariland velcro belts is probably a better idea to be honest.

I used a sig paddle holster that came with my kit for a while (p226 x5 all around kit) but recently switch to a ghost holster for the 226. Have to admit I like it a lot more :)

I bought Bladetech and am very happy. I can't say i have compared anything else but when you see Bladetech products, the quality and thinking is obviously good. Their locking system for both the holster and mag pouches is very solid. I also got the CR two piece belt and am happy I did. The combo of the Bladetech stuff and the belt are very stable. I'm new and not as smooth as more experienced shooters but the equipment does what it is supposed to for me and doesn't move around.

resurrecting old thread.

I am about to do black badge in mind June and will also use a 226 copy with rail (norinco np-22).

Do these same recommendations still stand 2 years later??

Who has the best prices and selection in ontario?

Thanks!

IPSC gear

I use the rig shown in Wendell's post when I use the BladeTechs I have for my P-226 and X-Five SIG's. They are very good products.

I have some very "pretty" guns and I'm wary of messing up the finishes. So for my best guns including a new 1911, I use the CR Speed because the holster has very limited contact with the gun. Of course it's faster for a shooter skilled enough to be concerned about that kind of speed improvement.

I just bought a great product IMO to use in IPSC. It's called the Beltfeed. It is four mag pouches mounted at various angles and distances on a piece of formed Kydex that fits on my belts. I have one for 1911 mags and for SIG's. The beauty of it is that the mags are very accessible and for a skinny guy like me with a small waist, the rig takes up less room on the belt than separate pouches. At about $130.00 it is cheaper than four CR or Ghost pouches.

Google Beltfeed for a look. Very good service from that company too.

Rivalen, you can talk with me too :)

Yes, these recommendations are fine today as then.

For the Bladetech holsters, belts and mag pouches, Double Tap Sports (site sponsor) is local, and can provide advice and equipment.

Bit of a thread drift but I have a couple of Beltfeeds that are surplus to my needs. One is for Glock mags and the other is for 1911 mags (although they work with single stack SiG mags too.) PM me if interested in getting one or both at a great deal.

Pouches

I should add the name Comp-Tac, who make both holsters and pouches that are of excellent quality and who will ship them directly to us very quickly.

If I was in your position, my first choice of pouches would be between three and five Single Mag Pouches and a Comp-Tac outside-the-waistband holster (of preference).

That's a very good option. I like the stagger set up on the Beltfeed and use a fifth single as an anchor in the back. That puts five mags in a smaller place to suit my smaller bod. I dealt with Comp-tac while I was in the US and found the service and transactions better than average.

I'll give a +1 to my earlier recommendation.

I eventually got an H&S/Speedsec holster for my 226. It's a race style holster that holds the pistol by the trigger guard. I used it for a year or so before switching guns it's a good holster but I'm not sure if there are any Canadian dealers.

SIG holster

since my sig copy has a rail, will I need a special holster?

My SIG Equinox has a rail and fits the Blade Tech and many other brands. My X-Five is bigger and required its own Blade Tech.

I don't know how faithful the copies are to the SIG shapes. Bear in mind that the Kydex holsters are very precisely molded.

Yes, generally speaking, a given holster will be made for a particular type of pistol and either for a rail or not for a rail, not both. You'll have to stipulate that, along with other details of preference, at the time of your order.

Fortunately, because the railed P226 is a common pistol, you have many holster options.

Yes still stands and can be had a Double Tap Sports in Ontario. That is where I got mine and the prices are good. Mention CGN and that you're an IPSC shooter.
