P226 MK25 Hold open after last round

Hey guys,

Title says it all. I have a p226 MK25 that I have put about 1000 rounds through. I try to clean it every time I shoot. Last time I was at the range, I was shooting some american eagle 9mm and the slide was not holding open after the last round.

What could cause this?

Not properly cleaned? I have never done a detail strip on it...seems complicated. Wife took it to the range with her friends and she cleaned it last. Used a bit too much slide grease. it built up a bit on the slide and the mechanism.

Under powered rounds? Could this be due to the ammo?

Has this happened to anyone?

hmmm. Its possible. It took me long enough to stop inadvertently pressing the mag release with my thumbs. I'm holding it now at my desk, and now that you mention it, its definitely a possibility.

Edit: Wow I think you might be right! although it takes quite a bit of effort to release it when held back, it doesnt take much to prevent it from holding open!

I guess it is I never even considered it! Good thing I asked! I was talking myself into doing a detail strip...would have ended with a trip to the gunsmith for sure hahaha

If you want to give your gun a good degrease, I'd personally use isopropyl alcohol and dollar store tooth brushes. Gets rid of all the grease/gunk and dries away. Safe for plastic and metal guns to.

Interesting. I do have access to some pretty good isopropyl alcohol. Ill give it a try! Thanks!
 
Could be the following;

Your thumb is resting on the slide catch

Your mag spring is in backwards, causing the follower to sit low.

The slide is short stroking due to limp wristing, weak ammo or improper lube.

I personally never use grease on any gun, but that's just me...
 
I have to watch my grip with my browning buckmark, cause i was accidentally pushing the lever. I was disappointed when it wasn't working, cause i love that gun! I was marking magazines lol. When i discovered it was just my grip it was a big relief
