P226 Navy

Lets say I want a brand new Sig Sauer P226 Navy (the one with the naval insignia and label that reads "naval special warfare" on it).

What would be the most convenient and inexpensive way for me to go about purchasing one of these? Or is it even worth the trouble and should I just go for a standrad P226? And if this is the case, could you please provide the answers to the same questions I just asked for this.

I say you'd be as well suited with a plain P226 as with a Navy one.

The original P226 Navy was a limited commemorative version of the P226 built to Naval Special Warfare specifications. They were made about 6 years ago and only 2000 were ever made.

Well it turned out that these 2000 pistols made a very good impression and the P226 Navy earned a reputation that survives to this day.

So some smart marketing person at Exeter, New Hampshire, thought they could still milk some more money from the original's reputation but engraving an anchor to regular P226 and call it the "Navy" version.

If possible, try to buy a P226 where at least the frame was made in Germany; at least those guns were made during a simpler time when quality mattered and economy crash of 2008 hasn't occurred.

Do you swim in salt water with your pistol very often? The "Navy" version has internal components that are treated (zinc oxide? or something similar) to prevent them from rusting after being submerged. I've talked to guys who are in our Navy boarding parties (who have regular Sigs) and they haven't had any issues despite the fact that their regular Sigs are frequently soaked with salt water spray while in RHIBs ('Zodiacs'). If it was my money, I'd use the difference to either buy ammo or reloading gear.
