What is the purpose of the gun?
Shooting a lot, on a budget? P226
Best reliability and ammo price is no issue? HK45
Otherwise are looks important? Ergos, grip, feel; which one do you like more?
Alternative: hk p30l
I actually hated the HK45 so much, I never shot the one I owned. It felt cheap and heavy at the same time. Both of those guns have height of bore issues, both are needlessly complex. You won't have any issues getting consumables for the Sig however, and you'll be able to shoot more for the same dollars, so it gets my vote.
Ergonomics are very important in a handgun. Which one feels best in your hand? Which one has the controls where you would place them? Which one gives you a sight picture that you like quickly and naturally when you bring it up to a shooting position? Which one has the smoothest trigger when you dry fire it (and how is the reset on the trigger)?
These are questions that only you can answer, and when you do you will know which one works best for you. (In a perfect world, one of these will be best in all of those questions, but in reality, the Sig will probably be best in some and the HK in others.)
First handgun what would you choose and why I like the 45 and 9mm so that's not an issue.
Well this thread may very well end up in a "draw". I've owned the HK USP45 forever, used it in a TDSA advanced pistol course, 1000rds, 2 days, no issues, just keep inserting the mags and shooting.
The SIG I have less time on, very accurate, and one of the best DOA triggers "out of the box". Both top notch pistols from reputable manufactures. I have the SRT for the SIG but so far don't see the need. The LEM was a must for me, as I thought the standard USP trigger was horrible. There it is, I"m spent. Buy both and decide which one to keep. Either way it's a "win win" IMO. Cheers
I had a usp in 45 too, great fking gun!!! Id buy another one of those before id get a HK45 to be honest. Half the reason i wanted to try one was because of your signature lol. Loved that movie.
