P226 vs P229

The P226 fits my hand like it was made for it, would a 229 have a similar grip?

I like the idea of the more compact pistol but I'm nervous about buying something I haven't shot, much less held.

I've been considering the new .22 version of the 226/229 and getting the .40/.357 conversion. Would I be better off sticking to the P226 if I'm shooting .40 or .357 or would it really matter?
 
The P229 is a bit stouter in the hand I believe... Though I have wood grips on my 229 and plastic grips on my 226, so that could be skewing my perception of things.
 
I have a fairly large hand and the 229 grip is comfortable. The gun does feel more compact than the 226 (of course) but it shoots every bit as accurately.
 
My feeling is that P229 doesn't feel any smaller in your hands. It is just shorter in total length (can't feel this), but with that Canadian Legal barrel it becomes as long as the P226.

P229s are nice. Ask Ghostie.
 
I got to play with a couple at the local range recently, and the grip on the 229 was just slightly too small for my liking. The 226 fits my hand like it was made for me.
 
I have a couple of 229's one being an ELITE. I love the look of the wood grips but I find them just a little too "fat" for comfort. I have Hogue rubber grips (not the finger ones) on two of mine and they feel perfect.
Some people find the "hump" on the left side of the plastic grips to be uncomfortable after prolonged shooting. The Hogues fix that and are a pretty cheap and effective solution.
 
I used to own a 226 (which I liked) it fits my hand great but I never liked P229 IMO it's ugly and somehow feels pretty fan in the hand.
