Hey Folks,

Completed my Black Badge and am moving on to IDPA and IPSC matches. Can't believe I waited this long to get into this type of shooting.

I was lucky enough to get a P320 before the freeze. One of the nice things is being able to mix and match slides/barrels and grip frames.

Now that I'm beginning to complete, I'm wondering how the rules relate to grips frames. I'm currently running a P320 X5 Legion in Production Optics. I have an OEM grip frame from a P320 Spectre Comp which is dimensionally the same as the X5 Legion, but has more aggressive stippling from the factory. Can I run this grip frame on my X5 and still be legal in IPSC and IDPA (minus the mag funnel)?

My gut says yes, as IPSC allows for grip panels and tape etc, but the complete grip frame isn't mentioned.

Thanks

Scotty

You are changing the grip which is allowed in IPSC. Not sure about idpa.

And in production there is no box. It must be on the list.

If you change the grip to a different model grip, you are not usong the factory approved model in production and production optics.

You can't mixNmatch in those divisions. Either use the approved firearm, or move to standard/open.

I'm fairly certain that you can't change the grip module to something that is not on the production approved list and still be classified as "production". You can move to open division, but you wouldn't really be all that competitive.

The Rules appendices for both shooting disciplines list exactly what is allowed. I would recommend you look over them before you heed any advice from the internet.

The part I am getting messed up on is this:

Original parts and components offered by the OFM as standard equipment, or as an option, for a specific model
handgun on the IPSC approved handgun list are permitted
, subject to the following:
18.1 Modifications to them, other than minor detailing (the removal of burrs and/or adjustments unavoidably
required in order to fit replacement OFM parts or components), are prohibited. Other prohibited
modifications include those which facilitate faster reloading (e.g. racking or cocking handles, flared,
enlarged and/or add-on magwells, etc.), and/or adding stippling.
Changing the original color and/or finish
of a handgun, and/or adding stripes or other embellishments is permitted.
18.2 Magazines accessible to a competitor during a COF must not contain more than 15 rounds at the Start
Signal. Identifying marks or decals, internal capacity limiters, bumper pads and additional witness holes,
which add or remove negligible weight to/from magazines, are permitted.
18.3 Sights may be removed, trimmed, adjusted and/or have colors applied. Sights may also be fitted with
fiber optic or similar inserts.

My gut says that since it's an unmodified OEM grip frame, I should be fine as the stippling was an OEM feature.

Ideally, I would agree. However, the current list for approved production pistols does not specifically list the Spectre Comp. If it was, you can switch the grips as one OE part to another.

Realistically, no one at a match will really care. But per chance at a Level 3 or higher match and when your equipment is vetted a savvy RO might point it out. Bring the OE Legion X5 grip module with you at matches, otherwise as mentioned before, no one will care.
