As a follow up to some earlier, pleasantly surprising results with some 147 grain handloads, have done a little comparison testing last little while. Nothing too extensive, just using components on hand, to see if it's worthwhile locking in a particular load. Had also read elsewhere of other owners of P320 X5's getting best results with heavier bullets. Anyway, best results for both weights below; Campro's and same powder/brass/primers. YMMV...

Seated, slow fire, 25 meters P320 X5 + Romeo 1 RDS. The Romeo 1 is a big part of these overall results too, as no was I could do this with my eyes and irons these days.

Previous results with the same conditions and 147 grain load - did try a few decimals above and below that 4.1 figure, but going both ways groups opened up. So 4.1 does seem to be the sweet spot. Also went up and down the scale with the 124's too, but results not worth posting lol - best is as posted above.

Not surprised.... All my 9's like 147's. BHP, 85C, M&P Pro.

Still searching for a 147 mold so that I can roll my own.

Nice shooting!

Thanks for the info!

Thanks Cathy, now only if that trigger weren't the sole fly in the ointment lol.

Never really used 147's extensively before, will see how a couple other pistols like them too now.

Nice groups!
Have you chrono'd these loads? I'd be interested in the power factor since there is a correlation with recoil management for quick followup shots (IDPA style).
I've been using 147gr for matches but recently tested various factory loads (no pics) with my 19x @ 10m, double and triple taps. To my surprise I had better overall groupings with 124gr between 135 and 142 PF. (AE and BBrass).
147gr was a good second (135 PF) but with some high fliers. (too fast on the follow up?)
115gr were a distant third.
I realize this is all subjective - Lots of variables including platform, technique etc - but will try 124gr my next match.
And will start reloading this winter...So there will be lots to learn and test.

The inherent accuracy of your 320 is amazing for a duty weapon. Not to mention your inherent shooting skill for a blind guy!
You just got a win-win with your new 147gr loading. Improved accuracy and reduced perceived recoil!
You’re gonna have a good season next year!

Nice shooting Bill. I have the Lyman 356357 mold that drops bullets out at 154 gr using WW Alloy. I size them .357 with good results using my PPQ Match and 5" over 3.1gr of 700X. I have not a lot of further testing yet as I was away most of the summer. I intend to do more work with the bullet this fall. I have a 320X5 on it's way and will be out next week with it. I will let you know how it manages the bullet and load.

Incidentally my 92A1 did not like this bullet at all and had limited success with it in my M&P Pro.

I will have to see if BDX sells 147 gr pills.

Take Care

Bob

Problems?

Love to be able to buy the Gray Guns Competition trigger! Maybe after the upcoming ITAR changes...

Nope no problems Cathy, just not a good trigger (doesn't help in comparison I occasionally use a DW 1911 9mm too, may have to add a red dot on there lol) - relativel heavy and a mushy break, at least on mine. Tried a Canik TP9SA recently and that is a nice striker fired trigger for stock! But yea patiently waiting on a GG Canadian distributor :) .

Sorry haven't chrono'd any 147's yet, but hope to soon. Yes lots of variables, but hey that's all part of the fun finding what works. One thing I have noticed with CFE Pistol generally speaking, both with 124's with my P226 and now these 147's is that best accuracy seem to come from mid grade loads - not too hot, not too weak.

Thanks LOL! But yea, not much skill required for these sitting down plinking tests with an RDS :) . Just wish I could transfer such to shooting on the move, but such is not my lot in life - I keep trying though :p

Thanks Bob, looking forward to your results! And enjoy the new pistol too!

That Specialist isn’t a fair comparison! That was a wicked deal! Look out, one Dan Wesson will turn into several.

I do enjoy the P320 X-Five on its own merits.

Again that is some pretty outstanding shooting, Bill. Will have to give a red dot a try one of these days, but hey, it still takes skills to shoot like that and you are not giving yourself enough credit!

Oh absolutely Cathy, it's my go-to pistol now for competition (IPSC) :) .

Thanks gdawg, just don't be wishing yourself into a RDS for the same reasons as for me LOL. But hey, just another way to enjoy the sport all over again :) .

Sadly, age is not improving my eye sight either...
