My Ruger P90DC burned in a pickup truck fire approximately 20 years. Ordered a complete set of springs and a set of grips for it last week and installed them today. Any volunteers to proof test it?

disassembled old parts

nice patina!

Big fan of Ruger P-series pistols. My P90 is as accurate as my 1911s. Reliability is excellent with full power reloads.

My concern with shooting your P90 is that the slide temper may have been adversely affected and therefore weakened, by the high heat of the fire. It does have that cool, ratty Mad Max look.

I'd have thrown it out with the rest of the garbage left over by the fire.

You found a loop hole in the government entanglements for an unpapered restricted firearm, claim it destroyed in a fire, it is now off the books, rebuild and done, perfect.

I found that "special" volunteer to test fire the gun. f:P:

he tied the gun down using a long string to activate the trigger from behind a barricade...50 shots and it didn't blow up...post shoot tear down visual inspection found no damage.

further evaluation to be done before I fire the gun by hand

I talk quite a bit with a gunsmith that has a background running a heat treating shop

He would not touch that except to make it a wall hanger

That steel is so soft its like mechanic's wire --- wire you can twist with your bare hands

How soft are the orginal springs ??

Are you saying the slide and barrel are gonna bend or bulge?

On a side note the recoil, hammer and trigger bar springs were approximately 1/3 of their normal tension compared to new...all other springs felt close to the tension of the new springs I installed....meaning the fire wasn't that hot?
The extractor also had good tension upon disassembly.

As mentioned previously after 50 rounds I disassembled the gun and didn't visually see any damage. The slide came off normally and I dropped a cartridge in the chamber wiggling it to see if there was any bulging.
