I have a few pack rifles, but for quick trips I love sticking the Badger in the Maxpedition Sitka. It fits in there like it was made for it, a few CCI and a few subsonic and it is always ready to go.
Well thanks to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts.
Seems the LB is the direction I am going to start with. With all the varieties of .22 out there it can eat and the simplistic reliability of its action as well as it's sub 3lb weight small foot print and customizability as well as the price tag how can I go wrong. I realize it's not perfect but it nothing is and the LB seems to fit perfectly to my needs.
The ruger is an amazing choice but I see it more as a pack for travel and storage and assemble and go when your there scenario.
The Henry seems well suited for boats rvs and quads and what not where it's good to have something should you get lost stranded or injured and need the protection and security a firearm provides in such cases.
All are excellent choices and I would take any over none if I needed one. They all seem to fit niches of the survival rifle niche market (sub niches if you will?)
I just bought a Little Badger. Been having problems with it. I'm very lucky if I can fire 5 rounds without a failure to fire. I don't know if it's just the break in period or not... The first 10 rounds I fired out of it only 1 went off the first time. The other 9 I had to re-#### and fire again.
That's really weird badshotbob. I've got two Little Badgers and they both work flawlessly right out of the box! All I did to them was run a bore snake through em and shoot em. I've got approx. 500 rounds through each of them with out a problem. I hope you get yours working properly. They are a fun little rifle.
I wish mine worked out of the box rosco! It's such a simple designed gun and I figured it would be real dependable. I'm having major issues with it though. Tried three different brands of ammo in it. All doing the same. I don't think the hammer is coming down hard enough. First 10 rounds I would get one going off the first try. After putting 100+ rounds through it I usually get 4 out of 5 rounds going off the first try. It's better then right out of the box but only 4 going off of 5 rounds on the first try I don't think is acceptable.
I'm really hoping I can take it back to the store and they will let me swap it out for another. This is the first firearm I have purchased that has had problems...
1. Don't dry fire it period. The firing pin will ding the breech create a burr and cause feed and or ejection issues
2. Cocking the hammer and then thumbing it down. Not dry fire but releasing it down with your thumb while the gun is opened. The firing pin then protrudes and slamming it shut with a round in the chamber can cause it to fire. Now this is a safety issue but one that is easily avoided by being aware of it and if someone wants to handle it tell them to not #### it without a round in the chamber or play time is over.
Like everything out there these days the odd bad example can get sent out the door. I hope your retailer is understanding and works with you to resolve it.
