Packable Shotguns

I'm looking for something that I can take apart relatively easily and put in a pack for a camp gun. Mag or tube fed, I don't really care.

So far I'm looking at:

-Dagger SAP-6
-Uzkon AS41

Any opinions on these? It's awesome that they come apart at the stock with a pushbutton. However, I am concerned about potential legal issues since that puts them under the minimum OAL for non-restricted while in a fireable condition. I wonder if there's anything that can be done to easily make it "unfireable" while I have the stock off....murky legal area for sure...I'd rather not be concerned with this.

So are there any options out there for a shotgun that breaks down to a short length while being "unfireable"?

870 MCS with a short barrel and full stock would be sweet...but it doesn't seem like that configuration is available in Canada? KSG is a cool idea but I'm slightly sour on Keltec. I actually started this thread because I'm looking for something to replace a Sub2000 for my camp gun.
 
Mossberg 500 Flex - while not considered a takedown, you can easily remove the stock in the field without tools. Might be something to consider as it can be adapted to your shooting environment as needed.

Remington 870 with a short barrel and either a pistol grip or a top folding stock.

It's not a takedown, but it's small enough that it doesn't need to be

(minus the top folding stock, can't stand those things)

A modded 870 is probably a good idea. At least then I don't have to take any chances with quality and reliability. Are there any other options besides dlask for short barrels?

Remington offer a 14", although seems like suppliers have been out of them. They show up on the E&E from time to time. Also, Canada Ammo sells the Dominion Arms 12.5". They're a little thinner and the front bear really needs to be higher.. I prefer the Remington but the DA is fine.
 
There's always the 8.5" Dominion Arms as a compact cheap alternative to the much better and more costly 8.5" Dlask.

Although must admit I'm growing tired of these Chinese guns.
 
The Sub won't do much damage, might be OK for a small wolf, but bigger than that you're pretty much Fubar. An 870 with a 12 1/2 Chinese barrel and a Mesa adapter would be fairly cheap. I'm not sure they're a step up in quality from a Dominion 12 1/2 though, the Rems look better, but I think quality wise (function) it's a push..
 
I recently bought my son a Mossberg HS12 Thunder Ranch 12 gauge O/U 18.5" barrels breakopen shotgun.

It has a picatinny scope rail and two picatinny rails on either sides of the barrels it is a fun fast to breakdown shotgun.

Issues I have had with it are the front fiber optic sight tube started to slide out of the sight and mounting my Leupold Prismatic 1X scope and a Fenix flashlight mount the rails are designed in such a way as they will accept a Streamlight tactical light and scope rings but are machined smaller somehow so the Prismatic integral scope base and the Fenix light mount won't fit tight.

Breaks down into 3 pieces once the barrel is off I snap the forend back onto the barrel so I am only dealing with two pieces.

I also recommend looking at Eberlestock internal scabbard day/backpacks.

I remember looking at these a year or so ago...can't believe I forgot about them. Great suggestion. When broken down, is the longest peice the barrel? Tool-less breakdown?
 
Yup the maverick packs quite nicely. The QD forend is a nice touch. Mine had some rough machine work underneath the forend though, have a good look under there before you buy. Action is longer than the barrel by an inch or 2.

Thanks for that! I am liking this idea. Do you need tools to break it down? Is there a tube selector?
 
No tools needed just a lever on the bottom of the forend you can see it in the above picture.

Fast and easy to take down and put back together = my 10 year old can do it almost as quick as I can.

Yes it has a tube selector on the safety.

They are regularly going for $550 + but recently I saw on a site sponsor/dealer a sale on them for $450 can't remember which one though.
