Paco Tool

There have been some reviews on Paco tools on RFC. It appears there are a few different such tools used for reshaping and ostensibly accurizing .22LR bullets.

There are fairly extensive comments in this review h t t p s://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=404946

The following has some interesting related observations h t t p s://www.rimfirecentral.com/rfcftp/pdfs/resizing-project.pdf

Thanks for the replys gentlemen. Nice to hear some actual positive personal experience BwanaDave.

Hey KDX~as you know, I use the Waltz kit...as it seemed the most "repeatable". It also SEEMS the safest, as there is something inherently sketchy about modifying loaded ammo. lol Using the Waltz, when the round is at the point where it's being altered, it's buried well within the die itself. I've put over 8,000 rounds through mine now, and it looks/performs like the day I received it from Neil. From what I gather in my conversations with him, it's something he does to make a little extra $ as he's an older guy enjoying retirement. If you think you'll ever want one from him, I'd urge you to act soon. (assuming he's alive and well, still making)

I'm glad to hear that you like yours. I talked to Neil a couple of weeks ago and put an order in. He had eye surgery so he was not making them for a bit. It's definitely not cheap, but most high quality things never are.

+1 on the Waltz kit. Have mine for some time now, first class quality. When I spoke with Neil, he said he does a batch of ten. It's a hobby not a job.

I talked to him again this morning and he has a few left. My money order is on it's way. The die is $135.00 US and ended up being $171.00 US with shipping.

^congrats! It's my favorite 22LR accessory, by far. :) A bit of a hit $-wise, but worth every penny in my opinion. I remember bringing a few UNmodified CCI Blazer solids with me the first time I travelled west with a heap of modified ammo. A couple days of shooting gophers WITH modified ammo under my belt, I sent about a dozen of the solids down the pipe to see the difference. No comparison. I'd expand on that comment, but suffice to say....the custom HPs were a bang/flop proposition. The solids=far from it.

The user noremf (george) posted his results with the paco tool and bulk ammo on rimfire central years ago.

his results are here:

http://www.dayattherange.com/?page_id=5338

in his testing, it improved bulk ammo accuracy in most cases. Interesting read for sure. Some of his percentages are not consistent, btw, but with an approximate of 75% chance of seeing improved accuracy is pretty good.

Their biggest thing was the final bullet diameter, which the Paco tool actually changes, but other tools do not. So playing with this is the key. With target guns and target ammo, the tool didn't help much.

I think (not 100% positive) that the Waltz die leaves the bullets at .225" when all is said and done.

I have hada paco tool for a long time now and have done thousands of rounds with it. I use it with the federal American eagle ammo in 38gr. love way you can open up the hollow point to almost as big as you like. Make quite . a desernable THAWP with contact the body of a gopher. Only ever used the ammo in my CZ 452 rifles, and a few 69A's. Love the Paco tool.....FS
