Why would a Inglis High Power that is otherwise in about 95% condition with about 75% of the decal still intact have red and yellow paint on it. It looks like someone left it laying around while they splashed painted around a room. Any ideas?

A good way to remove it from military ownership: Declare it unseviceable.

Some orgs used paint to mark unserviceable weapons.

Most 1911s sold out of US service were declared unserviceable and sold to eligable owners.

Often today they are found in the original cardboard box, new & un-fired complete with the sales receipt declaring them to be unserviceable.:p

:p
Not really concerned about how to get the paint off but I am concern why it is there. I have attached a link to the pistol. Why would anyone put paint on a pistol in this manner? Painted High Power

OK

1. Yellow paint has been commonly used by military orgs to designate NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) contaminated items for exercise purposes.

2. Red paint is commonly used to designate unserviceable weapons.

3. A white paint band is commonly used to designate DP (drill purpose) weapons.

I looked at this add some time ago & it fits the above reasoning.

Remember that until the early 70s most countries were not all that concerned about the whereabouts of a weapon after it had been declared un-serviceable or DP status.

Also many service personnel would "write off" kit they needed at home :p

I remember cleaning a few up that came from war stores (perfect decal ) that looked better than that ........to give to some officer (no offense intended ) to drop in the mud:(

oh well

It maybe the quality of the pictures or that rot gut whiskey I've been drinking (causing me to go blind) but I don't see a matching serial number on the barrel. Which leads me to suspect that this maybe a Numrich frame and slide parts gun. And if it is a parts gun, the guy selling has been drinking something.

I wasn't being critical ( i don't know enough about brownings to comment on the barrel just asking ) I used to carry one but the barrel was always in it unless i was cleaning it ....serial number there?
