So last year I bought some Arma-coat from Murdoc here on gunnutz. Great guy to talk to and deal with, awesome customer service.

I wanted a more professional product to do my firearms and didn't want to spray bomb my cherished rifles.

I wanted something different the the usual black, all my other guns are black so first I painted this rifle "Battleship Grey" which is a bluey grey and I really liked the end result, I applied a textured finish over the base color again with "battleship grey". Sorry I don't have any pictures of the battleship grey paint job. I hunted with that paint job all year and it was VERY durable, it didn't ride in a guncase in the truck either, I backpacked A LOT swinging on my packframe only one mark that it suffered was when I leaned it up against a tree to take my pack off and it slid off and smoked a jagged rock, it chipped a bit but was amazed at how well the finish around the chip stayed put, no flaking or anything.

In comparison my brother has a wildcat stock painted by a very reputable custom gun maker and the finish is flaking off everywere. I think they use Endura, not quite sure, I will be stealing his rifle to do a decent paint job on if he wants.

So now I'm getting ready to finish off a custom rifle and I am taking the stock off my mountain rifle and putting it on my Rem 700 TI custom 280AI.
I felt that the battleship grey was a little too bright for my hunting needs so I wanted to darken it up a bit while maintaining the bluish battleship tinge

I hit the sock with Fine recycled glass grit and then lightly sanded off the surface and remaining paint with 180 grit paper. After masking off the bedding
I then sprayed the stock with Nason 421-19 sandable urethane primer, real tough stuff. Then block sanded it with 400 grit paper. It takes a while but its worth it.

After cleaning off all the sanding dust I sprayed it with a home blend of 2 Armacoat colors Battleship grey and Matte black. If anyone wants the recipe PM me and I'll share.

I'm using a HVLP gun, this limits the amount of waste spray an just play with the settings until you get the finish you want.
This armacoat is very easy to spray, doesn't run very easily but is not thick at the same time, Great stuff. You can use an airbrush if you want but it will take forever apparently since your coverage is so fine.

Here she is. Now I am trying to decide what accent color to put on. I'm thinking either
1.) Darker spittle texture finish
2.) lighter spittle texture finish
3.) white webbing
4.) Black webbing
5.) Leave it as is
6.) Hunter orange poka dots, NOT

Unfortunatly I haven't found out how to get the webbing look without using Krylon, I'm not sure I want to start spray bombing my stock, I'm going to have to think long and hard before I do that.

So far the arma-coat holds up real well, I haven't had an opportunity to spray any on metal but I am more than happy with its performance on Fiberglass stocks. I don't know about duracoat but the armacoat is real easy to apply. Kind of wish I had more stocks to play with.

I think I'm going to try some tan's and browns next.

Looks good Brambles I wish I had the patience to do that kind of work.

If you want one done I'm sure we can come to an arrangement;)

I really want to see how the clear works on wood, I have a boyds laminate stock that might be getting done for ####s and giggles just to try it out.
