I got tired of looking at the dark blue paint on my CQ311 so I painted it with Matt black high temperature engine paint (Duplocolor ?).

I disassembled the rifle. Thoroughly degreased it, and then baked the finish on at 400F for 2 hours.

It looks awesome and appears to be quite durable (I’ve tried to scratch it a couple of times and it can be done but you’ve got to try) Also, my CLP isn’t taking the finish off.

I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of doing it to a CQ.

I think the trick is to degrease extremely well; I used two cans of brake clean. Then I used a thin coating (mist) on the rifle, then used a heat gun to flash it over, and then another thin coat.

This stuff builds up pretty thick but you don’t need much; thin is better.

Ultimately I would have used the Duracoat that Murdoch sells but I wanted to try the $8 option on the CQ. It’s a hell of a lot better than the paint it came with.

Those scratches in the first picture are what the rifle (NIB) came like. - Sheer crap!

Now I’ve got a rifle that looks like it performs as I’ve never had a malf with this rifle and just love it.

I also own a Stag with an Eotech, MI BUIS, Quad rail, 3 point sling, and a VFG.

But sometimes you’ve just got to “kick it” OLD SCHOOL.
