Painted my Sako A7 softtech stock.

Got around to fixing the sticky stock on my A7 .308. It was tacky and tracked a bunch of lint as you will see in the photos.

Took a few hours of sanding all the soft tech rubber coating off with acetone and red SOS pad then switched to 80-150 grit sandpaper to speed up the process. Took time to get it out all the small parts without sanding to much.


After masking and a good cleaning I hit it with 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of textured black spray paint followed by some marble silver spray paint. Waited 48 hours then 3 coats of matte clear coat.

First time using that Montana marble spray paint. Hard to know how much to use and for fear of over doing it I went pretty light on it.

Turned out great, paint feels pretty durable from my handling so far, time will tell I guess.

Is it just the lighting or is the paint on the glossy side?

Looks good. Bit shiny for my liking though (but that could just be the lighting).

The black had a bit of shine before the clearcoat, But matte clear helped a lot.

Looks great. I highly recommended brownells alumahyde clear coat!! I tried various different automotive clear coats over the years (duplicolor matte clear enamel being the best) but NOTHING has held up as well as the alumahyde. If you’re not hunting it, an automotive clear is sufficient. If you need something that can take abuse try the alumahyde. It is trickier to get on this side of the pond. But luckily I’m close to the border. I ordered 6 cans to a PO Box over there and went and picked them up.

Rubbing further with some AAAA steel wool will remove even more of the “shine”

I was going to say. Nice job on the stock terrible job on the pictures. Can you post up some pictures once the storm passes and you can get the gun out into sime daylight conditions.
