Hope you guys can help me here. I am just putting back together an old 870 wingmaster for hunting and the metal is mostly worn bare with a few pits. I don't have the cash to have it properly reblued so was wondering if I can paint it with something I can do at home that will stand up and make it look presentable.
I have access to sand blasters and paint guns if required. I have a new set of syn stocks so it will just be metal needing refinish
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

if you want to make it look good then you can use one of the epoxy based gun paints like Aluma hyde, dura cote ect.
we have soe mthat comes in a spray can.
pm me for more info

Did mine in Krylon paint.

Turned out nice and rock solid. Just did the usual prep, light sanding, alchohol wipedown, masking, primer then paint. Did 2 coats of primer and 4-5 coats of OD green on mine.

Here's some pics I have, not very clear though.

I got some Aluma Hyde II from badboybeeson last week. Painted a couple of 870 barrels and a factory Rem700 synthetic stock OD green. This stuff is easy to apply with basic home supplies like masking tape and a hairdryer. It seems to be much tougher than Krylon, I've used that stuff in the past quite a bit as well. Can't comment on Duracoat, my wife gets PO'd when I bake stinky gun parts. :)

Next up is my Norc Commander frame.

Why not just buy a reblueing kit they are like 20 bucks cheaper then paint.. stip it then reblue it..

Krylon is a good paint but its not long lasting and sure it works ok on guns, but itf your looking at refinishing a gun and keeping it in good shape with 95% + of the paint left, then you need to buy one of the epoxy based paints like the Aluma hyde or dura cote ect.
As its an epoxy based paint, so if the gun is clean and dry and applyed right it will last a long time.

Last I checked Duracoat does not need to be baked on. Check out ArmaCoat for some great paint! I can't recall the man's name (username) atm but he is a member here on the site. http://www.arma-coat.com/ that is the website. I have painted two of my guns with this product, no baking required and it is super strong and will not come off. All you need is a paint spray gun and the basics like sand paper etc. Very easy to do!

Here a pictures of one of my gun that I have painted...
