I have a regular black plastic Remington 700 stock. I would like it to be olive drab. What can I do this with that might stay on and not look absolutely amateur.

Thanks in advance.

although its not overly durable try krylon. go to lodco and buy a small tin of plastic prep. use a scotch bright pad and scrub the stock with plastic prep, dry well and hang to spray. if your handy with the spray gun try a polyurathane automotive paint. follow directions. i have done many. you couls also try cerakote c air cure. very durable but must be sprayed.

Someone used to make a military grade spray paint in two/ three different colours.
It seems to hold up ok. Even painted some ammo cans

Krylon or similar would yield ok results that is prone to scratches but easy to reapply for touch-ups.
Plastic specific spray paints often have plastic-etching primers that making bonding much better and can be clear-matte coated after.

'Military grade' paint (ie Chemical Agent Resistant Coating - CARC) is overkill and meant for re-coating vehicles and etc for protection / ease of decontamination (as the name suggests) and reduced IR signature.

I washed mine in paint thinner, let it dry, then sprayed with Krylon. Been good for about 5 years. A few scrapes on the top of the comb where I hit it with the cleaning rod.

Check out automotive paint and body supply shops, they should have a primer option specifically for plastics. Bumpers and trim are all plastic nowadays and painted to match the car, prime it with the proper paint and then you can paint it with whatever you like with minimal fear of the primer failing and the new finish flaking. Most shops will be able to custom make spray cans of automotive paint and clear coats as well, a satin or flat clear is a good idea to finish off with.
