I'm planning on painting my rifle. I have seen people use things like leaves, camo nets and string to lightly spray paint over to create the pattern. Does anyone here have a preferred thing to use, Or is one particularly better than another?

It all depends on what kind of camo you are looking to do. Some you can just use two or three colors of spray paint and not use anything to mask. Best is to do some reading and watching videos to see if there is anything in particular you like then follow that.

I have seen one done with ferns. It was pretty sharp looking.
I've used some mesh bags that avocados at Costco come in. I sprayed them with removable adhesive, and stuck them to a stock that was painted flat black. I put the "seam" at the top and bottom. Krylon multi color camo. Removed mesh and ended up with a "reptilian camo"!
