Painting Rollmarks

I need some advice on painting my roll marks..

I read over the guide someone posted here

and it looks pretty easy to do, but I have 3 questions

1) Does gunpowder and gun oil etc.. seep into the paint and discolor it? or is the paint pretty impervious to that

2) I was thinking that possibly applying a coat of clear nail polish over top of the dried paint would further its lifespan.

3) Would gun solvent just cut through that clear nail polish like a hot knife through butter? (Calling all the ladies and goths that clean guns :D)

Any comments? Thanks guys
 
i used wax crayons. rub rub rub. then heat with a heat gun till the wax melts. then rub off what i don't want on.

oil and water don't take it off. plus if it gets damaged, super cheap and easy to fix.

I used a china marker available at any buisness supply store (grease pencil). Rub it on, put some Hoppes #9 on a cloth and wipe it flush. Mine's been on for 4 years with no wear.
 
"...nail polish..." Don't ask me how I know, but nail polish remover is acetone.
In any case, what paint you use depends on the rifle's composition and the finish. Steel or Al. Parkerizing or whatever.
NaOH's china marker(aka a grease pencil) works well and doesn't cost a bunch of money. So does enamel paint and plastic model paint.
Mind you, the whole idea is an peace time American Army quirk.

Would regular gun solvent remove nail polish as well? Cause if it does, I guess putting that clear coat on with clear nail polish would be a waste of time.

I just want to make sure that when I do my guns, it wont wreck the finish if I ever want to remove the color in the roll marks. But I also want the color to look good for as long as I want it there.

Is there any advantage of using model paint over the grease pencil NaOH used? or over the crayon P0WERWAGON used?

Thanks for the advice guys.. I decided to go with crayon for now and I love the look of it! If im not sick of the coloring in a few weeks I think ill upgrade to model paint.
