hey guys , I saw a few black sks and really like how they look....anybody have any tips on what to use to convert mine from wood to black?

thank you very very much!

If it's a numbers matching gun and stock, then do not modify.

If not, then paint away. You will need to strip the finish and bleed all the cosmo out though before painting.

I tend to agree with what was said previously, if you've got a numbers matching, no ###X'd stock, stick with the wood, once you alter it, there's no going back.

That being said, if you still want to, i'd advise getting a cheap chinese sks stock and pait it, so you have the original later if you change your mind.

As for the actual painting, i did a chinese wood stock that turned out pretty well with a spray can of truck bedliner from walmart. Just get all the cosmo out, then sand the stock to get any finish off and spray in light coats untill you get the look you want.

If you want to paint the stock, I say go for it. I can't see the average SKS that you intend to use, matching numbers or not, to be of any historical or monetary value within our lifetimes.

I say paint it if you want to, it's your gun, or get a cheap extra wood stock off the EE you see them for like $25 and experiment with painting that and don't worry about "ruining" your origional. Or just spring the extra $50 on the EE and get a stock for it.

nevermind i found a tactical stock for it .. this way I can keep the wood antique look when i want and switch over to a more modern firearm... thanks guys

Black is boring. Get it purple and it will be truly unique!

^^ thank you baby Jesus ! Lol good move it's still a "cheap" gun at this point who is anyone to tell you what to do with it. Although it's kinda like taking a classic car and painting it with Bed liner some will love it..... Most would be mortified. I for one don't care what you do in the end. It's yours drive it over with a truck to test it's functionality for all I care it's yours. I've tastefully modified some of mine..... To each there own, although I don't like to be called bubba lol mine were done for functional purposes, I'd like to tacticool one eventually but I have a great deal of love for the wood. Let us know how ya like it after vs before

It's an SKS folks. They're a dime a dozen. It's your gun. If you have a nice stock and want to save it, then do like others mentioned and buy one off EE or elsewhere. It's your property to do as you are pleased, so don't feel pressured to do as YOU like.

When I buy a gun, it's for ME to enjoy and the last thing in the back of my mind is "resale" value. Then again, that's just me. :p

A tomato stake is a tomato stake, painting it black won't make it anything else. (and we still won't let you in the black rifle section):stirthepot2:
