Painting Steel Pattern Plate

Hello:

For those who've used a steel pattern plate, what do you paint the plate with?

I use a white moly grease but it comes out a very dark gray colour. I am sure it has something to do with the oxidation of the plate.

Will oil based white paint mix with the grease? Is there something better I can use.

We just use some kind of grease. I don't even know what it is. Doesn't have to be fancy. As long as shot leaves marks in it.

Edmonton gun club uses a pail of grease mixed with some graphite and you spread it on with a paint roller. Works like a charm.

Thanks guys. I am using white moly grease but my plate is ending up dark gray which makes it hard to see the pellet strikes in the photos. Trying to find some way to keep the grease white.

You know, first world problems. Lol.

Just use whitewash then or pin paper up..

At my Calgary club, we use white spray. It dries in minutes allowing use after use.

At my club we have a 4 x 4 pallet on legs .we then staple on heavy gauge brown construction paper to it . This allows you to write your load information on it and you can take it home for analyses .
