PAL and RPAL Questions

Hey everyone:

I'm still relatively new on CGN and I have a couple of questions to ask.

I'm going to apply for my PAL and possibly my RPAL.

A person I know who is a PAL holder advised me that I need a full drivers licence in order to get a RPAL due to the ATT. I have a beginners (G1) driving licence. Can't someone just drive me to the range like a taxi or a friend?

Second, if I take both PAL and RPAL courses do I need to apply for the RPAL or can I just choose the PAL only since I don’t have my full drivers licence yet? If I choose to only get my non restricted and 6 months later choose to apply for my RPAL (since I've already completed the course) will that be possible? This is probably a stupid question as it'll cost me more in the end since I'll be applying for two licences instead of one immediately.

Thanks

Done correctly you can walk to a range with a restricted, I would still drive or get someone to give you a lift... That has no firearms prohibitions. That is unless they are going to discriminate against people that cannot drive that would violate the Charter...

get ur rpal all in one application. u dont need no drivers license just good i.d. cheaper that way and than wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait...it might take years before u get it. did mine a year ago and still waiting....

Get both at the same time. Even if it is true about the drivers license (which I am not 100% sure of) you can still hold a RPAL without owning a restricted gun and therefore no ATT required. You could also just call up the RCMP at 1-800-731-4000, the people who answer the phone are very helpful and knowledgeable and will be able to answer all your questions.

You do not need any sort of driver's license to get your PAL or RPAL. I don't even have my learners yet and I've had my RPAL for years.

If you take the RPAL course, but only want to apply for a PAL you can do that. The course results generally do not expire, just hold on to your course result paperwork for if you ever do want to apply for your RPAL.

Also, because it's a common question, it does not matter what the exact mode of transportation is for an ATT. You could walk, drive your own vehicle, get a ride with someone else, call a cab, ride a horse, ride a bicycle, ride a motorcycle, or whatever.

It's surprising how many cab drivers used to be in the military, either here or back home. I might have convinced one to get his PAL a while back.

I’m the club ATT secretary, and I can confirm that at no time has the CFO asked anything about an drivers license for any of our members. If you think about it you can, walk, ride a bike, take a taxi, or drive with some else.

.

I just got my RPAL based on a course I took in 1996. I didn't have any of the paperwork from back then but they had it all on file when I called the 1-800-731-4000 number. The instructor must send in some paperwork.

i dont think you need a DL either. but maybe to the R you do. I am new also.

but I do know if you apply for you pall first you will pay 60 now, and then 80 again later when you apply for your R rather than just applying for you R for $80 one fee. just trying to save you some money. :)

You don't need a DL to get your RPAL my friend had his and i had to drive him to the range all you need (like your PAL) is a photo ID
