I have been waiting for my PAL for about 45 days. I gave them a call today to check the status. They told me its with the CFO in Orillia waiting for approval. Is this normal? or just an Ontario thing. When I got my test I had to send it to the CFO for them to stamp before I could send it with my app to the Firearms centre.

Ontario is the only place where you have to send it to the CFO before it can go to the CFC, so it seems weird that they send it back again.

Mine was held up by the Alberta CFO because it got flagged because I had the same name as someone who had been in some trouble. One phone call and it was approved.

I would give the CFO a call to see what's up. You are better off calling them instead of waiting for them to call you if there is an issue that needs to be resolved. But again, you would think that would have been delt with the first time they had it.

call the firearms center and be really nice and they might hurry it up a little bit.
they did for me anyways, but I am only talking a couple of days so I could go turkey hunting.
They connected me with the CFO and i was really really nice and got it 2 days before the 45 days were up. :dancingbanana:
Good luck and be nice.

If you put "restricted" on your application, they want to have a copy of your club membership in a file before the will issue the licence.

No you don't.

If you want the restricted, they (the CFC) will call and ask why you want restricted. Your only two answers are target shooting or collecting. If I'm not mistaken, clubs will not let you join unless you have you licences.

When you go to PURCHASE a restricted, you will have to show club membership before the CFC will approve the transfer.

As far as the time it takes for the CFO in Orillia to send the documents back to you, I was told by my instructor to call the CFO if the documents were not returned after 3 weeks. If I recall correctly, there was an issue about unqualified instructors teaching the PAL and RPAL courses, so the Ontario CFO now wants to see the documents to make sure you took the courses/wrote the tests with approved instructors.

What about for employment purposes? If I want to work armored car, I'll need an RPAL. Target shooting / collecting have nothing to do with the job.

The local CFO here has had my sons PAL application since March every time he callls them they tell him how busy they are and to call back in a few weeks:eek:
