Fella's, am I wrong, or is there no law that the seller of ammo needs to verify the buyer has a PAL licence?

I remember years ago when Canadian Tire started recording PAL #'s on ammo purchases I asked the manager wth? He said is wasn't law, but store policy.

An RPAL/PAL licence is to possess and acquire firearms as far as I'm aware, nothing to do with ammo. So, the only reason for recording the licence number is to reveal how much ammunition so and so possesses, which is none of their business as far as I'm concerned.

Am I off my meds here, or should I tell the store to pound sand? What if we all took that stand? (Store in question is not Canadian Tire)

Compliance varies with store. Kanadian Tire, sights your pal, walks you up to the till, hands it to the teller. Others just sight your pal.

I know for instance that retailers are supposed to record; name, address, phone # for powder and primer under the explosives act. Big retailers like cabelas or bass pro mostly do. Small retailers never do. Asked a clerk, noone ever shows up and wants to see the clipboard.

A private person doesn't need a ridiculous reference number for ammo or explosives. While you need to show a pal for ammo purchases at a.retailer. Nothing is required to possess ammunition.

I've bought ammo in person recently, and all the store did was "look" at my RPAL.
I've ordered ammo online, and they required my RPAL#, and they probably verified it.

That's all that's required. If a retailer is going to record my info when purchasing ammo, I am going to tell them to pound sand. With that said, I haven't run into that issue where I live and shop in person.

Is it law though?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm about done with bending over and if the retailer isn't required to have the number, I'm inclined to let the ammo collect dust on their shelves until they smarten the F up.

Depends on your province

Here I just pick it off the shelf and go to the checkout.
In Ontario they recorded the info.

It varies. CTC in my Ontario town takes down info on paper. Cabelas in MB checkout just wants to see PAL. Online purchase they want the pal number info but it is not confirmed like it would be in a gun purchase that I know of..

In NB the BP has ALL ammo on OPEN shelves - 'pick your poison' and walk it to the teller. Teller 'sometimes' READS PAL (sometimes just glances to verify you have one) and takes your money. At CT, they keep it locked in case, then walk it to the teller.
