PAL/RPAL Application Problem

The backlog of files is probably referring to those that have been flagged. Others who pass the process without being flagged most likely have their application continue on their 'normal' route.

"Anything" means anything. Even if it is nothing more than a coincidence like same names, old address's etc.

This isn't a firearms specific problem either, I think this is more of a general rule of thumb. Most government agencies that require some sort of background check aren't going to let files roll through when the simplest of notices come up. Really, there's probably two levels of employees working in the system. The younger or less experienced do the basic paperwork, research and application check; the older or more experienced staff do the real research into the findings of the original once-over, clarifying potential problems or clearing un-relating findings.

I'm very new to firearms, but quickly I have seen the same impatience in this hobby/sport that I saw when I got into motorcycles. Its all the same. Patience and honesty will see you through. If you are deserving of the privilage, then it will come. If there is reasonable doubt to let you qualify for the licensing, then you may find yourself (at worst) looking for a new hobby.

Like they say: Rome wasn't built in a day

Ticketed is correct. Even having a common first and last name will cause trip ups. Your name is put into a search, and if anything pops up it's handed to someone else to check up on. A fellow I know of had a criminal conviction <5 years before he applied for his license. He was honest about it, had 2 phone interviews explaining what he did, why he did it, how his life has been since then, blah blah, and his PAL was delayed while everyone got their ducks lined up. He was delayed about 6 weeks. I hope yours goes faster, since you really don't have anything to talk about, but you may get a phone call or letter in the mail saying to call them.

I can confirm also reading that even if your address was the site of a crime it can delay applications. It really sucks for appartment owners/renters.

So on the recommendation of friends who own a couple of the banner advertising companies on this page, i joined up on gunnutz. I got authorization and a welcome email. Then i found out that to access their :equipment" buy an sell pages, there was another process. I had to read all the rules, then write a short bio to say hi. Then i was asked what the "first alphabet" was in the prime minister's second name. Our prime minister has two given names and one surname. The " alphabet" used is the english alphabet. What a werid question!!! Did they mean "what is the first letter in the pm's surname? Then they asked what province the alberta oil sands were in. Well, every albertan knows they are not oil sands, they are tar sands, ,properly described. All so off the wall ans seemingly sorta over the edge stuff. So i proceeded to explain that my isp/ email settup was bell canada. Then i pushed submit ap. Next page, i got the message that the "reason given" to apply to accesss the buy and sell pages, was..." bell/sympatico!!!" then they said this was not a substantial or valid reason! I tried to back up to see how i goofed up...and i didn't. Bell canada is the largest isp (internet service provider) in canada! I have belonged to guns america for years. I really wish we had actual free trade...including guns. If i can't find a website that world like something informed adults in canada produced, then i will just cross border trade with a buffalo importer. This gunnutz was a poorly chosen name, and gives a bad face to a noble and decent serious hobby and life love for many canadian people. The nutz part really applies to this childish, imature, user-unfriendly virtually pathetic piece of misconstrued bizzare software. Canadians will one day get a serious website. I can't wait to talk to my gun dealer friends who promote this site. I think they just giggle that the thing is so weird. The only thing the public at large can access, is their own banner ads!! Good for them. Bad for the guys who want to buy and sell without the 30% commissions. I am truly depressed about the fact that in our entire country, after fighting the battle to get long guns deregistered, we can't come up with a gun trade website that works. Maybe guns america will allow us to use their template for a slick and user friendly canadian version.

Now granted the day is young, but I'm sure this will be the funniest thing I read all day!
