Im just filling out the PAL application, and saw something interesting..
Section "I" states: "If you have previously held a firearms licence under the Firearms Act, Exclusing a Minors Posession Licence or a revoked licence, do not enclose a fee"

now here is my question.

I had, in the early 1990's a FAC [the brown paper Firearms Acquisition Certificate long since expired.] I was told that it was too long ago to be grandfathered into a PAL. And that i would have to take my Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
I have taken the PAL/RPAL course and passed.

Do i have to pay the PAL/RPAL app fee because technically i DID hold a Firearms licence [my old FAC]

thanks

From what I have been told, for both PAL/RPAL it is suppose to be $80 for 5 years or $60 for just PAL.

Ask your instructor or call the CFC. The last thing you want is your application to just sit there or be returned to you due to lack of fee.

My instructor told me to include $20 with my RPAL application, due to the fact that I paid $60 when I sent my PAL in a few years back and the cost of a complete license was $80.

Renewals and updates are no charge. However, given you FAC has expired long ago, the CFC may look at you as a NEW licence applicant.

Best to call them, or your instructor.

Yes. If for some reason you don't have, government will give you money back, but to my knowledge, you need previous PAL/POL (C-68) for free renewal or upgrade

"...held a firearms licence under the Firearms Act..." The FAC wasn't under the FA. It wasn't a licence either. No previous experience matters. You could just write the tests.

do you hunt?

Seens to me I remember a small box to check if you intend to use your guns for hunting to provide food,,,,,Pretty sure it went that way, it's been a few years,,,, anyway, the fee is waved if you go that way, any savings is good, ie; more ammo! Cheers Badbarber
