It would be better if you knew that material than just knew enough to pass the exam..... your life, or someone else's might depend on it.
Disagree. If he can pass the test then he knows everything he needs to know about safety. He may not know the name of a part on a flintlock or other questions that have no real practical use other than to fill out a test with enough questions, but basic gun handling and safety I'm pretty sure he already has. Heck, anyone with just common sense can pass that test. It sure wasn't difficult.
As suggested buy the manual. Read it, and do the test. There is nothing on the exam that isn't in the manual. I challenged it and got 100% in the written and practical (being a black powder shooter too I was already familiar with flintlock LOL). Just ask a few people that have recently done it in your area as to the idiosyncrasies of your local examiner.
I don't know ANYONE who has failed the test. If you fail that, your probably the kind of person that needed multiple kicks at a drivers license too, and a car is much more dangerous! I'd rather see you not have a drivers license! Watch out for bikes. We are back on the road in full force!
