I passed my CORE already. 83% (5 wrong) on the written with 100% on the firearms handling practical. I take the PAL test tomorrow tho. I've read the manual about 5x and I'm reviewing it again. do any of you have pointers that will help prep me? I've done the practice exams at gunexams.com several times, but because the questions don't change, I'm pretty much acing them after the second time thru.

Know your ACTS and PROVE. Be sure to know how to make firearms safe for the different types of actions as well. Aside from this, it really comes down to common sense...don't point gun at buddy, know what you're shooting at and beyond, etc....

604 said it quite well. Knowing your safe handing and proving safe are the 2 biggest things IMO. Identification of of different actions and ammo to match is important too. Another very important point is to think clearly and don't stress. If you start getting confused and flustered, thats when mistakes are made and people fail. Good luck!

Honestly, just make sure you do Acts and Prove every time you pick up the gun.. make sure you know what to do when crossing a fence.. make sure you know the different actions.
and never point the gun in a bad direction.

Don't be afraid to take your time and go through it super slowly to do everything right.

As an instructor we see mistakes that occur frequently.
On a ceasefire - step back from the firing line.
Complete the ACTS and PROVE fully when asked to pick up a FA.
If you're doing your RPAL also , remember the ATT for legal transport.
Know correct procedure for crossing a fence solo !
Watch your safe direction always.

Nothin' to it . You'll ace it !! Good luck

I know ACTS, PROVE off by heart and I think that through it whenever I pick up a firearm (I did get 100% on the firearms practical for CORE). Does anyone know how many questions are on the written portion?

That is all you really need to know, that and common sense and safe handling and not to point the muzzle in the direction of anyone.

I think your going to be ok, dont stress it ;) it is pretty dang easy!:dancingbanana::shotgun:

During your practical, stay altert, keep the muzzel pointed in the direction you were told to! You may have to move in some awkward ways to accomplish this, but it's important. Also remember to treat the trigger like it's hotter than the sun, keep your finger well away at all times. On the frame, above the trigger is a good place for your finger, the instructor should see nothing but daylight in the rigger guard at all times.

The written test is mostly common sense. When in doubt, ask yourself what a liberal yould say, that's usually the answer.

If you payed attention in class, you WILL pass. Good luck!

Keep your da@m finger off the trigger in the practical and if you aren't completey familiar with the firearm, before the test ask the instructor any questions that you think you need to know. If you don't know the answer to a question, don't BS the testor!

Oh also one more important thing to know.

During your practical you will have to go over a little fence with another partner in your class. Before going over the fence, do ACTS and PROVE to your firearm and make sure your partner does the same to his/her firearm before crossing the fence, making sure to put the saftey on and keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

MAKE SURE, your partner does ACTS and PROVE, you ask him to prove the firearm safe before he/she passes it to you, vice versa.

Good luck

The RPAL written test also has 50 questions. Same format as the PAL test.
Combination T/F and multi-guess.
If you are handling a Win '94 as the required lever gun or others that require you to manipulate the trigger to apply the 1/2cock safety - you may want to state to the examiner that you are doing so !
If you are doing the RPAL also - be doubly aware of safe direction and finger off the trigger at all times.

thanks dryfire. I'm using the same instructor as I had for CORE and if the dummy firearms are the same, I will be using 30-30 Lever Action. I've learned how to play with it nicely as one time when I was easing to half #### from full after chambering a round, the spring was unexpectedly strong and it snapped from under and would have fired the cartridge if it was live.

after that event, I was always razzed as the one who shot the wall! :runaway:

At any given time you have to look down the barrel to make sure it's clear, even though the muzzle is pointed at your eye, you still have to have the muzzle direction pointed in the given safe zone!
