There seems to be a lot of questions regarding time frame and procedures for aquisition of a RPAL. This was my recent experience.
April 11. Challenged and passed RPAL exam.
April 14. Mailed application
April 21. CFC received application.
May 21. Noticed an Ottawa area code on my home call display
May22. Phoned CFC to see if it wash them calling me as no message was left. They said they do not leave voice messages, but looked up my application and conducted a short interview.
May23. First reference was called.
May 25. Second reference was called.
May 26. Check staus online, licence approved.
June 5. Received RPAL in today's mail.
NOTE: I did not have to include any fee as I was upgrading my existing licence. Less than sixty days from start to finish.
I hope this answers some of your questions.

I sent my RPAL upgrade on June 1st via Expresspost Envelope (just to cover all the bases)

Hope it arrives in a timely manner.

I mailed my app out 3 weeks ago and still havent seen a change in status on the website....hopefully soon....

I mailed my application on May 14. After a few weeks it showed up as recieved on May 19. They called my references and me on June 15 and I got my license today!!! Whooo hooo. 39 days. I am impressed. Now I need money to actualy buy something. Sigh.

gun club membership

At what point do you need to prove that you belong to a gun club to buy a restricted?? What about the Authorization to Transport? Do you need these before you buy but after you get your RPAL???

I believe so. I am sending in my LTATT as soon as possible. Just in case I come into money.

I have had a few friends call about and check on their status and they said they would be mailed out shortly. It sounded like if you ask then they put a bit of a push on it.

Can't confirm but it seemed that way!

still no change online for me either its been 2 weeks a couple days :( I've seen several smokin deals on the EE and its killing me to not be able to "pull the trigger" and buy something... I have a friend with RPAL who would buy for me, but then there is that "what if"...

I sent in my pal and rpal three weeks ago and when i go to the site to check status NOTHING comes up at all although when i sent it in the mail the tracking number said it was recieved. Is that normal or should i be calling in as well.

Also with a restricted rifle does that mean you can only shoot it in the range and you need that permit to drive there ? Cant blast gohpers on your farm with it ? As a first time shooter coming into this it sure seems like Canada takes alot of the fun out of owning nice guns and having fun.

RPAL what is it?
Is it just another name for PAL

Rpal is the Restricted Possession Acquisition Licence
Letting you buy handguns and firearms that have for political reasons be defined as Restricted

PAL Possession Acquisition Licence are guns that are "Hunting" firearms. As is defined by the government in charge. Even though many people refer to the Non-Restricted firearms registry as the Long gun Registry even those that work at the centre it is not a Long gun Registry since not all long guns are on this.

My political rant for the day :)

hehe lucky you're not in Ontario otherwise:

1. Buy a handgun - wait 6 weeks like me for my first transfer to go through

2. Take a handgun course at your club, pay more money

3. Have to wait for #1 to go through before you can even apply for your ATT to use said handgun at club. Application goes through the club secretary.

Our club course is cheap, and our secretary efficient, but the same cannot be said of all clubs. In our case we owe a lot of thanks to the volunteers that keep things going.

Fun eh?
