PAL Wait Time

Seems to be more of a long term political effort needed, to improve RCMP accountability and transparency. An MP could perhaps help there, with your input adding to their data to support arguments in the places where those things change. But as for accelerating an obviously excessive wait period (that is, if there's no questionable/criminal history also involved) I agree, an MP isn't going to be able to offer any help at all.

License was issued April 23, still haven't received it. Called in today and was told it still hasn't been printed and it would be several more weeks. 2 months now to print a license.

So i was approved little over 2 weeks ago and decided to give them a call to see whats up. The nice lady there told me that they are still working on the printer issue and said i might not see my card for another 7 weeks!! Thats close to my whole application process.

I hear people say this all the time ?? What is a MP gonna do? They have no grounds to expedite a firearms licence.... not to mention the liability they would hold if that firearms licence was ever used unlawfully.....

I get it .... they are our representatives to the government ... at the end of the day I dont see them risking his position so I can have a little pew pew

I WOULD happily contact my MP if i
A: knew what to say
B: knew which MP to contact

Find your MP by typing your postal code in the search bar.

https://www.ourcommons.ca/Parliamentarians/en/members

Send her/him an email giving details about when you applied etc. Ask them to enquire from the CFP why your application has been delayed and when can you expect approval.

Be polite, no ranting, long winded complaints.

Does calling the MP actually help? I am a first time applicant and mine was received by the government on April 1st. My references have not yet been contacted. I called and spoke with them and she said to call back in a month. Which will be a month on June 30th. I have also read previously here that having references call in doesn't work anymore so I won't bother with that. Which is why I am wondering about the MP inquiry and if that is a legitimate thing to pursue.

Hi, new to the forum.

I was told that i won't be getting mine until the end of October. So that will be 180+ days. Even then the lady said that it might not be issued until the new year. So basically, Taking the Rpal course was a waste of time and money, and saving up for a Sig 516 is pointless. What blows me away, is the Alberta CFO unit represents Alberta, and NWT, a population of 3 million and they act like every one is applying at the same time. They should hire more people or contract out the background checks to GARDA.

Ive never had a domestic partner, or any violent entries on my record. I don't even drink FFS.

Seriously?
Does the RCMP website shows your application is in process or licence issued yet?

The wait time in general is sooo long you have plenty of time saving money to buy what ever is your dream firearms :) Just bought Colt Canada SA15.7 + Glock 17.

It says the "initial process is complete, check back at a later date".

The concern is that by the time i get mine, they will have banned everything i need.

Correct me if I'm mistaken about this, but would it not be possible, and perfectly legal, to have a friend with a license purchase whatever it is you like, then once you have your license in hand simply get it from them? Doesn't seem like a straw purchase if you don't get the firearm until you've got a license. Any paperwork at that time would be like any other sale. The fact that your friend uses your cash is not a legal concern.

This is the best solution while a guy waits, and perfectly legal cause after all the firearm is in the possession of a legal license holder. Where the funds come from is neither here nor there

I thought so as well, but if ARs and hand guns get banned, how do you transfer a prohibited firearm from one person to another? or what ever the case may be at the time.

I'm trying to stay positive, as I await my own RPAL/PAL. Got my eye on a non-restricted takedown 9mm and maybe a Ruger MkIV Tactical. With the focus on 'AR-like' rifles with the Liberals it could well be that the TNW ASR gets banned. And if they ban pistols, well, obviously I won't even be able to get that little plinker. But hey, I'm trying not to think about the worst case scenario, working on motivating those around me to vote in such a way that that silly little boy doesn't get a second term as PM, so maybe we can just move on and enjoy our fun while watching a government make better decisions for our nation.

Just shot one of those TNW ASR rifles last week, was a great little gun, very much approved of it. It did not like cheap ammo though, had a few stovepipes in a row with cheap stuff, Federal cycled perfectly. I immediately wanted to pick one up but in 40SW because I'm a freak and enjoy firing that round!
