This thread was very helpful to manage my expectations, but also to understand how many have been expedited by calling the RCMP and/or CFO when something doesn't seem right. Luckily I haven't needed to make those calls to this point, but the person I took the course with and simultaneously applied with did, as something was a little off. And, same as many here, even though the status was 'completed initial review, if more info required we will contact you', there was in fact more info required and there was no contact. She called at my urging because of what I'd read here.

Anyway, thought I'd add my timeline also:

May 30 - CFSC taken
June 17 - Application received
June 28 - CC charged
July 10-15 - Completed initial review, if more info required.... Hadn't been checking regularly, so don't know exact date
Aug 5 - Application completed, licence issued Haven't got it yet, but only a week

By mid-July, my friend's CC had not been charged, 3 weeks after me with otherwise identical timelines. She called, they couldn't read the CC number so it was being declined. Fixed it immediately and charged that day. How long otherwise? Be the squeaky wheel if something seems off

course taken: May 30, 2021
received: 28 june, 2021
CC charged: 8 july, 2021 and showed up online.
Approved: 11 August
Called CFP BC, was put on hold for 2 mins and approved on call.

Waiting for card in mail

And card FINALLY received in mail July 30, 2021.

What's the BC CFO direct number? In am in the same position, it's been sitting in his office now for over a month and a half still waiting. The process started March 12 mind you. Every time I call the CFP number, I get some woman who has no clue and will not give me the number for the BC office. When I call her out on this unreasonable delay in my renewal, she claims it's a lack of resources causing it. She would not transfer me and basically hung up. Bunch of horse crap, the only thing that has changed since my last renewal is my address. So much b.s..

What's the BC CFO phone number??

Found it ,hopefully it's still current: The BC CFO can be reached at 1-800-731-4000, then hit 1, 1 again, and then extension #9530.

Try calling BC CFO 1-800-731-4000, then 1, 1 then extension #9530. Was helpful in my case.
I called 2-3 times from the day it appeared online and was told to call BC CFO.
Finally tried on 11th aug and got approved right away.

Hoping best for you. Hopefully you will have it soon.

That is so fast. Congrats. It took just under four months for CC to be charged and for it to show up online back when my application was submitted in October.

Update:

Applied online March 12
My renewal application has been at the BC CFO office for close to 2 months.
I have phone there no less than 4 times with no answer.
I have had a firearms license since the days of the FAC.
Today my wife ( of 18 years)gets a registered letter from the CFO advising her that her spouse (me) has applied for a firearms license renewal and if she has any concerns about the applicant, she can call the 1-800 number.

Anyone else experience this nonsense?

Yes thank you.#jefft

Seems processing time is going very smoothly. My instructor told me to wait for minimum 4 months but I’m impressed with the processing time.
best of luck guys waiting for approval. hang in there. time period is now smooth and short.

I sent my photo in on regular paper. I wouldn't say that is a mistake on my side, considering their requirements say nothing of requiring photo paper and I followed their requirements to the letter. Furthermore, when I called the CFO office, I was told the issue was because their scanner couldn't properly scan a photo not on photo paper. What kind of scanner can't scan a photo on regular paper? They should either get a new scanner from this century or put in the requirements that the photo needs to be on printer paper. It's ridiculous that an applicant who follows the requirements to the letter can end up facing a delay of months due to a problem that has multiple simple solutions.

Did you get the "We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application" BEFORE being made aware of the picture paper issue, or did the message appear only after the correct paper was sent?

Asking because the initial review of my application was completed but I sent my picture on regular paper so now I'm wondering if it'll be an issue or if I'm safe once the initial review is marked as done. Also my credit card was charged.

AB timeline

I did mine online and the CC was charged within a few days. Still waiting weeks (since July 28) later and it still says we have completed the initial review

Sorry, forgot to mention. I’m applying for my PAL/RPAL, new application. We will see what will happen in the next few weeks.

Hi Guys,

I am from Toronto and have applied since March 2021 for RPAL. I have not got anything yet.
Please guide who to contact as I called on 1800-731-4000, they said that Final Review is pending. They can't do anything.

Here's my timeline.
March 23 - Application Sent to RCMP
March 26 - Application Received
May 19 - Credit Card was Charged
July - Present - Online Status "We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date."

Anyone can guide me on this. I will appreciate your help.

Yes it showed initial review completed quite a while BEFORE it said I was being contacted for additional info. The photo will DEFINITELY be an issue. I speak from experience. And yes the application should say to submit photo on photo paper but it doesn’t. You’ll have to mail in a new photo signed by guarantor. Quote your application # when you do. Good luck.
