PAL Wait Time

I applied online.

That's annoying then! I suppose there could be differences in background checks depending on what city you're in (checking with local departments for arrest records, etc.), how many addresses you have had, or if people with a similar name have criminal backgrounds.

Even though I got mine already, I wish there was better transparency and consistency.

OK, context matters here - being caught with a BB gun. What was the context? Being seen with a BB gun around a campfire or out in the woods is a lot different than having seen with a BB gun at a bank while wearing pantyhose on your head or getting caught with it at airport security.

Basically the first time I hopped off the bus coming from school and undercover police chased me I don’t even know they were undercover till the caught me telling me I’m under arrest and I ask them for what reason and they said for under the possession of a firearm I’m like what firearm they checked and seen the BB gun and eventually let me go second time was in school this time it was uniformed officers and they approached me questions where being thrown they were asking me for a sachet I told them I don’t know what that means they told me a sidebag and right after they started searching everyone’s bag eventually they got to my bag and found it arrested me and later found out that it was a BB gun aswell so no charges filed each time they found it I wasn’t moving stupid with it of course I knew it was a BB gun

shouldn't be an issue since there were no charges

PAL application sent in via online I did check a box because of them doing a lifetime record check I had an assault charge with a 2 year weapon ban "no weapons used" 10 years ago but clean otherwise since then will that effect me from getting my PAL also from ontario

Hey gang, new member here (wpg, mb). I had trouble posting on other threads, so figured i would put these questions up here....
I also had a question regarding previous convictions and PAL/RPAL. I recently passed my PAL and taking RPAL in another week. Will be sending both apps in together at the same time.
I have a DUI from many moons ago. Do I even have a chance at getting PAL or RPAL? Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance!
I have my statement all written out for the pal/rpal app. Is there anything I should add or remove or elaborate on?...basically this:

To whom it may concern,
I received a DUI conviction roughly 10-11 years ago. Nobody was injured and aggression and/or violence were not factors in the incident. I lost my drivers license for 1 year, paid a $1000 fine and adhered to all requests/demands made by the courts.

Since this regretable incident, which I have repaid my debt to society; I have matured and now have a family, am a homeowner and am a responsible and contributing member of society.

Thank you for your consideration,
Me

I personally wouldn't worry, I have seen others with past DUI's get approved, only bar at present to getting a PAL is a firearms prohibition which you do not get I believe from a DUI.

Did you get a peace bond?

Thanks very much for responding! And just to confirm, I should definitely be adding this disclaimer to my applications, yes? I've had a neighbour tell me I should just be saying 'no' to everything due to the amount of time that has passed. But he's an older gentleman...and I don't want to be untruthful or withhold any info on applications.

I'd leave it out.

Not that I can remember I don't have any of my papers from court or anything to go back on to check so I can't say yes or no to that if I did will they deny my application?

A peace bond is being proposed as a lifetime ban from holding an R/PAL, also any form of past no contact order even bail conditions, however NAWL, a women's law group has advocated for the removal of this provision, don't lose hope if you are affected.

...no way to get through on the phone...

Come on, man. If you don't have the patience to get through to the CFP then how do you get through to the phone company? How do you get through to your satellite provider? Like it or not, waiting in a seemingly-endless telephone queue is part of the modern existence. It might take an hour, or a day, or a month of Mondays, but provided that you don't quit trying you will get through (eventually).

Hey I contacted the CFOON via email they confirmed they have my application but told me to expect a 6 month delay is that normal for someone that's checked a box on the application?

Every case is different, but at a time when many no-boxes-checked applications are taking six months or more, it's not surprising that a checked box might mean six months (or more).
