PAL Wait Time

EricCire,
Yes.
When I called the CFO and they told me my PAL was approved I asked them what my number was and they told me.
Then, the store where I was buying my rifle printed a temporary certificate from the RCMP's site. I was able to bring my rifle home.

What temporary certificate did they print? Was it the transfer notice? The stores in Ontario said that we are not allowed to take the firearm home unless we have the physical license in hand

Sent renewal in August 2022 for Restricted January 2023 expiry. Received new card middle of February 2023. Only 6 months!!! I would suggest renewing a year ahead of time. However there is probably some rule against that.

New here, this is my timeline in BC. Sent snail mail and with a certified check.

Application received Feb 22
Lisence issued April 4th.

So now I wait 2 weeks for it to show up.
Is there any way to get the number on the card to buy anything before the card shows up?
Am I allowed to have guns in my home without having the card yet?

Yes. You should call the BC CFO office. They will give you your license number and expiry date. You can then use this information to make online purchases of firearms and ammunition.
Some retailers will not sell firearms to you unless you email them a copy of the actual license. But to my experience, many large, online retailers are quite comfortable with just taking the license information you provide. They are able to quickly verify your licence details from the RCMP online database.
This is exactly the process I followed. Almost 6 weeks elapsed between, the issuance of my license and the receipt of my physical license. In the interim, I was able to legally buy a shotgun.

Well, after reading a few different forums and such, it seems I'm not going to be approved to get my PAL/RPAL. I fear my bad decisions as a young adult will restrict me entirely.
- DUI 10+ years ago (no violence or aggression)
- Drunk tank a few times in my 20's and once about 6 years ago (no violence or aggression)

I'm about to send my application in the mail. Should I be disclosing the drunk tank (no charges ever laid) and the DUI (charge laid) on a separate piece of paper?

I've asked before, but now it's go time. I just want to keep the odds in my favour, even though I'm not feeling very confident.

Thanks again.

They don't care about DUI's, I really wouldn't worry.

I applied my license via mail from BC. on

2023-feb-12 - course completed
2023-feb-20- Application received
2023-mar-05-We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application.

2023-mar-27-Still waiting

2023-Mar- 31 - My Application was approved and licence was issued
2023-Apr-12- I called CFP and got to know that they haven't printed my licence because of the backlog. The lady on the phone said it might take additional 4 - 6 weeks.

It sucks TBH, is there a way that i can still order online, or is there any kind of temporary document that we can get?

Wow. I applied mar 1 for an August expiration after hearing the nightmares. I did it online. It came in today April 12. I was shocked. 5 yrs ago I did it and it was here in less than 3 weeks. Sometimes someone at the government does their job!

Yeah its getting crazy waiting.
just seems to keep getting longer.

Wonder how this strike that's supposedto be happening in canada soon will effect the times it takes to get done.

April 2022 - took course, sent in paperwork
November 2022 - received a notice that my photo was not up to 'quality' (note that quality is not specified in the papers, just dimensions, it was a colour photo printed on regular paper)
Feb 2023 - received license (non-restricted)

So, update.
Was approved April 4th.

After reading all these things on here about being able to get the number from the cfo. I called them.
She asked why I wanted the number since I can't purchase anything without the card, But she gave it to me anyway.
She then told me my card has been mailed yesterday(April 12th)

So I'm not sure about any 3,4, or 6 week printing backlogs for BC atleast

You technically can purchase something without the physical card if you want to lock in a sale price or avoid it selling out. The retailer just can't let you take it home until they see the physical card.

Happy for you brother but in my situation and many others we are forced to wait over a year plus what happened to without undue delay honestly I am just about tired of waiting and the worst part is there’s nothing u can do about it it’s getting to almost a year next month will make it a year of waiting for nothing
