PAL Wait Time

My old lady and I both new applicants in Ontario and went for RPAL, mailed registered mail together.

Application Received on: 2018-04-06

As of 24th, Day 48 Ontario, checking online it says it has been issued and is in the mail.

Some info about our application. Neither of us checked any boxes, had our references called, or were called ourselves.

I suspect we'll get the cards in the mail next week.

Alberta pal/rpal timeline:

March 26, 2018 - Application received and Credit card charged on same day.

May 7, 2018 - Called rcmp regarding status, was told my photo is being scan, after that will send to Alberta CFO

May 9, 2018 - Called Alberta CFO, was asked to send them Letter of Good Conduct (Work Permit)

May 14, 2018 - Status changed to issued

May 22, 2018 - License received in mail.

First Purchase:

May 17, 2018 - puchased 1st restricted from gotenda(haven't received my license on this day, had to call rcmp to get my license number and expiry date)

May 18, 2018 - Transfer initiated by seller

May 22, 2018 - Called CFO regarding the transfer, was told they just approved it and a new license with ATT attached was sent out the same day. Email gotenda about the approval of transfer and waiting for them to ship

I thought CFO's gonna need a copy of range membership before sending me a new license with ATT attached but I was never asked for it. The officer said they only ask for the range membership proof when applying for license renewal. Strange process.

This is good new for me anyway, since I only plan to target shooting a few times a year, so don't plan to join the membership but just gonna buy daily pass.

Bass pro has the shotgun I want for $50 off right now and I really hope I can make that sale but probably won't happen sadly

They have a Glock with MOS on sale here for like $500, hopefully I can get that before someone else.

Ven and Maiko your comments were super helpful! Thanks.

Almost any store will let you buy and wait till pal arrives. I had 3 paid in full waiting for my card. The day it arrived I called and they started transfers. Email the store you might be surprised. Or find a store that price matches and buy it to hold

Im so happy mine has finally appeared online!!

Application received april 20th
Appeared online and completed initial processing May 28th

Thats 38 days to appear online.
Check hasnt been cashed yet.

Edit: Called in and asked if they needed anything from me. Very friendly lady. Was told its going for photo scan then CFO for approval. Told references do not need to call in, just gotta wait and that everything looks good so far. This is just for a PAL btw. So happy!!

PAL Application delivered March 23
Showed online April 25
Showed mailed out May 29

68 days for them to process it, and that's with no complications. No divorces, ended relationships or mental health issues to look into.

Ontario RPAL applicant here, no mental health issues, divorces, recent terminations, etc.

Mailed out application April 03
Application was received April 11 according to website, however I couldnt check the status online until May 18, which is when credit card was charged
Application approved today, 49 days from receipt

Looking forward to picking myself up something and enjoying some range time this summer!

my PAL application is not showing up online anymore.... the last status update was "completed initial processing, now in progress"
now its saying the information i have typed in does not match their records?

Sure youre typing it in right?

Call them

yeah, i called and they said the card is being made up

but i havent heard of anyone not being able to see it online after its already been online

its strange

Ya especially since mine is still in the system from 2013.

It happened to me once where it told me info didnt match our records and it was because where it asks you to enter your name it asks for last name first on the top bar and i had put my first name there by mistake.

Well, I obviously have the right information in the right fields. I called and they said it’s in the mail.

No need to be condescending.

Even a small typo/mis-key would return the message you indicated. I don’t think he was trying to be condescending.

I don't understand how anyone could read that as condescending. And I even said that it happened to me too...
Its easy to do

Lucky.

So what was your timeline then? When did ya send it in

okay so,,

03-09-2018- Took the safety course
03-29-2018- Received test scores in the mail
04-04-2018- Mail scores and Application to Miramichi
05-14-2018- Showed up online (Received on the 9th of April) but showed that i was missing my name on the back of my photo.... They sent me a photocopy in the mail to sign and fax back.
05-18-2018- Received the copy and faxed it back that day
05-23-2018- Initial processing complete
05-30-2018- stopped showing up online (called the RCMP they told me it has been issued and they are making up the card) they said it's not online because im not an applicant anymore, which i haven't heard of that happening to anyone else
05-31-2018- Call again just to make sure i didn't misunderstand, they said it has been mailed out and its on its way!!

56 days

A few speed bumps but its done and it should show up this week.

I've already purchased a Remington 783 .223 and a savage mark 2 22LR, currently thinking about getting an SKS surplus when i pick them up from the store.

2/22/18 - Took the non restricted course
3/26/18 - Received test results in the mail
3/27/18 - Sent application
4/4/18 - Received in Miramichi
5/9/18 - Credit card charged and showed up online

And has been showing the whole “initial processing complete” spiel ever since, the wait has been excruciating! Especially with a buddy recently getting his and seeing others here receive theirs in less time than I have! Not jealous at all! I’ve called twice and both times, although nice ladies, gave me the carbon copy response of wait a little longer :(

Will update back whenever it decides to issue the license.

Update:
6/11/2018 - pal has been issued according to the website!

Finally the wait is over with lots of summer time for the range!

Just had the web site change to issued, process took 49 days from the time it was received in Miramichi. You're right, it's a long wait. I think I will not allow it to expire this time.

Finally an update from here in Alberta:

March 14, 2018: Took course for PAL
March 19, 2018: Took course for RPAL
March 21, 2018: Mailed in completed applications for both licenses. Used photo from Costco, they seemed familiar with the requirements.
March 27, 2018: Application received (I didn't know this until it showed up online a month later. I did not use registered mail)
April 27, 2018: Application shows up online, credit card charged, status shows initial processing complete
May 29, 2018: I called in, the lady who answered confirmed that the application was with provincial CFO, and that it was underway, wasn't missing information, and I should call back in a couple of weeks if nothing had changed.
May 31, 2018: Online status shows as approved and license issued.
June 6, 2018: License arrives in mail. 11 weeks from the day I mailed it, 12 weeks from taking the course, 10 weeks from when it apparently arrived in Miramichi.

Pretty quick, considering some people's stories on here. No issues on my application except divorce finalized in the fall, but separation more than three years ago. Never any criminal history or issues. No references called.

Picking up a rifle on the weekend from a family friend who no longer hunts, he's throwing in the locker for free. Time to hit the range!
