PAL Wait Time

Sent all my paper work for an upgrade to RPAL. It was received may. 11th
It showed up online June. 20th
Called today July. 24th and was told the Alberta CFO has had it since late June but have a large back log and to call back in 3 to 4 weeks. Very frustrating.

83 days later and it finally showed up online today as issued

Sent in Nov 2017 for new PAL/RPAL, I'm still waiting, Alberta's CFO sucks.
Anyone knows if visiting the CFO office in downtown Edmoton will make difference?

Finally got my PAL/RPAL approved today, it turned out that there was one guy on probation with the same full name and the same birthday as my wife's, my wife is a woman though...

Time line of my application thus far. From Quebec, for PAL

April 28. completed CFSC
May 30. Received stamped packet
May 31. Sent application
June 6. Application received at Miramichi
July 16. Application showed up online and CC was charged
July 20. Called Miramichi. The lady i spoke with was very nice, said my photo was scanned into the system and she was going to send it to the Quebec CFO (slightly frustrating that it seems the only reason it even got sent that day was becasue I called)

Today I called in and was told the Quebec CFO has the file and to call back in a few weeks. (Day 50)

Called this morning Aug 8, I was told the 45 day processing time is from the date the CFO receives the application. But on a call July I was told its from the date NB gets it. Last time I spoke the the CFO on july 24th he said possibly another 2 weeks. No references would be called for pal. Today when speaking to the CFO he said all that was left was to contact my references and call me back for a phone interview by then of this week.

Anyone else from QC having these wait times? Or getting information the differs from agents they've spoken with?

An update, My application appeared online today (July 18, 2018).

Although I got a message, basically saying I will be contacted via mail, or phone due to missing information.

I called Miramichi, and the rep had told me that there was in issue with my photo, but she couldn't figure out what the issue was. Everything looked to be in order, I was told to give them a call in 5 days for an update.

92 days from completion of CFSC, And CFRSC, 64 days with CFO so far.

Completed CFSC, and CFRSC May 9th, 2018
Received stamped test results June 6th, 2018
Application arrived in Miramichi June 8th, 2018

Missing photo was received in Miramichi on July 23, 2018
Called, to confirm they received it, as of August 8, 2018 it hasn't been entered in their system. I was advised to give them a call back next week as it can take 3 weeks for missing information to be entered.

Today is a good day. License has be issued (aug 13) 70 days from the time it was received in NB

From what I've been seeing here, the strategy of sending in the PAL application upon completion of the course(s) and not waiting for the receipt of the stamped course results does seem to make a pretty good difference in how quickly it gets turned around. I take the courses this coming weekend, I'm planning on sending my application on the following Monday.

One question though, the application references three courses, but it appears the "Safety Course" applies to MB and QC only, am I right in that? Being in ON, I'd only have taken the CFSC and CRFSC

Is it possible the safety course you're referring to is the hunters safety course?

Is it possible the safety course you're referring to is the hunters safety course?

I believe they are referring to the line "Safety Training - Have you been certified by the Chief Firearms Officer as meeting the safety training requirements or have you successfully completed a course approved by the Attorney General of Manitoba or Quebec prior to 1995?"

In my CFSC the instructors said to ignore that line and leave it blank since it was referring to some course they used to teach in QC/Manitoba.

I can confirm this also. Either leave it blank or just check “no”. I checked no. Had no problems and my license was issued fairly quickly. So all you need to complete is the CFSC and CRFSC.

My application finally changed to initial processing completed as of Monday, August 13th. Now I'm assuming it's with the CFO. I'll be calling Miramichi next week for an update.

Anyone know what the deal is for issuing the actual card, are they coming from NB or is there a local office in your respective province that issues and sends the card?

Reason for asking is I live in QC so I'm fairly close to NB compared to ppl from Alberta or BC and it seems like most ppl have their card in hand 5 days after it updates on the site as issued. It took 3 days to get there for me so I would figure 3-5 to come back at most.

I'm in QC also (Montreal). My RPAL was issued on August 10th, and I received it in the mail (Canada Post) yesterday. The return address says Miramichi, but only took 7 days from issued to delivered!

Mine just showed up today 78 days from the time it was received for PAL... I guess I should have just done my RPAL right away.
