PAL Wait Time

So I called and got my licence number ans the lady said I could initiate a transfer for an ar15. So I call this afternoon to start the transfer and the new lady said I was breaking the law by not waiting until I physically had my card.

Gotta love when beuracrats tell you different things.

Did they let you get going on it anyway? I've got two restricted transfers started, but the dealers started them for me. My PAL card hasn't arrived yet either.

so iv been checking this site and the rcmp pal checker everyday for the last 30 days pretty much, trying to decode the steps needed to process a bit of paperwork,
and i've decided to give my story because there are prolly 100 other ####s like me who look here every day wondering wtf is going on

i live in bc ... took my training in bc and submitted my paperwork in bc

took my firearms training june 9th 2018 and mailed off my application june 20th express
july 10th cc charged
july 13th 2018 application received and forwarded to cfp for approval
july 15th core hunter education taken

called in to the cfp a number of times with the usual answer that it is in Q and call back in two weeks, occasionally i will get someone who disappears and looks into stuff but they all have the same limited info and call back is the standard response

I did check one of the boxes in section C as i was in a car accident 4 years ago and suffer from a back injury that has prevented me from doing alot of activities i usually enjoy like running, working out, sports, and snowboarding but peaked interest in other activities like shooting and hunting

Good luck, man! Mine would've been approved around day 38-40 or so if it weren't for a hit on my background check. I'd expect some good news in the next couple of weeks, things seem to be moving fast right now!

Some insight:
I called the CFO the day they received my application, they said there will be no reference checks because their automagical system didn't put me in that queue.. or something like that.
Sounds like if you're with the CFO & you've been assigned an officer, you wont be getting a reference. I had an arrest in the last 5 years that showed up and that didn't trigger one, so I have a feeling it may be entirely random.

I'm under the age of 30 and got my RPAL. No references called, and nor was my spouse. (sharing age because I had initially thought maybe the younger you are the higher chance your references would be called, but I know others under 25 who didn't have any ref calls for an RPAL in Ontario)

Hello MoMoney, I have a similar timeline as you, my application was received Aug 13 (with test results). It is online now. When I called I RCMP they said it now with Ontario CFO. I noticed you mentioned you called the CFO, is this the Ontario CFO? Do you have a phone number/ email for them? Can you share this please, I could only find their the fax number online. Thank you

Definitely. I sent you a PM with their extension! It is the Ontario CFO office indeed.
Call Miramichi and enter the extension I gave you.

They can tell you if anything popped on the background check at all, and they can tell you if it's been assigned to an agent or not. If it's been assigned, you've passed the reference check point and provided there are no issues you may very well get approved next week. That's the trend, anyway!

Hello all, Pardon my stupid question. How are you calculating the 45 days processing? My credit card was charged Sept 7 and application showed as received online on Aug 13th.

1. 5 days or 7 days week?
2. Counting from when application received as shown online or credit card charged?

It will be much quicker if you fax them a letter, that way others are made aware of the delay and can set a fire under the ass of the individual with your file. You will get the same answer everytime you call as you're not speaking to the individual with your file but just a drone answering the phone. Also, they won't transfer you to the one with your file. I also emailed them several times and not only did I never receive a reply, but it also did nothing to speed up the process.

Counting including weekends, and counting from the day the application was received. :)
For reference, mine was received August 2nd. Approved September 20th. Following the same timeline, you may be approved in the next 10-15 days!

Woops. Quoted wrong post

July 28 Completed Non-restricted Course
July 29 Completed Restricted Course
July 31 Sent application to Miramichi via Xpresspost
August 2 Application signed for in Miramichi
August 14 Stamped results received from FSESO
August 14 Called Miramichi to inquire about sending my stamped results. Told me not to fax them until my application is in their system and to call when it is so I can receive my application reference number
August 31 Appeared online as received on August 2nd. Missing information and told I will be contacted.
August 31 Called Miramichi. Provided information re: spouse and new payment information, payment processed over the phone. Told to fax application number and stamped test results to 1-800-411-0622 and to call back in 2-4 weeks to confirm receipt of stamped results.
August 31 Checked after calling, site now says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."
August 31 Called in again. 1-800-411-0622 fax number did not work. Rejected 3 times. Given new number (1-506-624-5010) to try. Fax successfully sent around 2:30pm.
September 7 Called in once again to confirm receipt of my fax sent the week prior. Was told it is not showing up in their system yet and to call back next week (Tuesday or Wednesday).
September 14 Called to confirm receipt of fax. Informed me it was received and my application is with the Ontario CFO. Told to call back in 4-6 weeks if I haven't heard anything by then.
September 17 Called Ontario CFO. Informed my file was assigned to an officer on September 14th. Should be looked at this week. Was told I will not have my references contacted as that part has already been done. Asked about arrest in 2014. Informed that it may or may not require an interview.
September 20 License issued. Called Miramichi and received my PAL number. Initiated transfer for an AR15 & my P226 Legion. Finally!

Day 48 or something? Not bad at all considering I had a hit on my background check for an arrest. Hoping my restricted transfers don't take too long!

How did they let you do that (initiate a transfer I mean) . I tried to do the same thing and the lady yelled at me like I was a criminal. The lady was even cranky I wanted the licence number to go join my local gun club.

Can it really all just be luck of the draw with who you talk to?

Mine was approved on Thursday so presumably mailed out the next morning. It showed up exactly one week from approval so six days shipping. FYI I live in Calgary, Alberta so quite far from miramichi

New here. But my application with pic and stamped results arrived in miramichi last Tuesday Hopefully I had everything correct.

I had my test results stamped in the mail about 16 days after doing the course so I sent it all at once.
As of today I have nothing showing up online when I check.

I know they received the entire application with everything sep 11. So not sure when to see accepted online..??

Checked online this morning (Sunday Sept 23) and it was updated to say license issued. Last time I checked was Friday around 4:00PM so not sure if it updates over night or it was just one of the last things done Friday afternoon. I'm not complaining, and things went faster than I expected. No references called.

Ontario
Aug 18/19: Completed CFSC and CFRSC
Aug 20: Sent to Miramichi via Expresspost
Aug 22: Signed as received
Aug 23: Received stamped course results from FSESO
Sept 10: Credit card charged (getting notifications of charges is very handy)
Sept 10: Application appears on line, "Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date."
Sept 10: Called and got the fax number to send stamped results and faxed in course results.
Sept 17: Status updated to "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. " Guess they got my course results.
Sept 23: Website updated to say License issued.

So one month, I was expecting much longer but am pretty happy to have it done now. Of course the bank account might not be too happy.
