PAL Wait Time

I am in Ontario, my application timeline so far:

2018/08/21 & 22 - CFSC/CRFSC course
2018/09/05 - received stamped course results
2018/09/05 - application sent to Miramichi, NB via registered mail
2018/09/10 - application received in Miramichi, NB
2018/09/27 - application is now online and “Initial processing is complete”
2018/10/17 - application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

37 days from received in Miramichi to licence issued.

Well I checked today and it's been issued! 62 days since it was received! Thrilled!

What to take away from this is that even though they may say it's not at the CFO it might be! Call them and find out.

that is fast

I had a check box checked....within the last 6 months I had an ex-girlfriend call the police asking me to stop harrassing her....luckily it didn't happen but a report had been filed, the police simply asked for my side and that was that....
Sent in my application with an additional page describing the situation, web updated as application approved in 51 days. Now does it arrive before the post office goes on strike....

Not bad IMO.

Off to find a range to join so I can pick up a Canik TP9SFX

Hey everyone, just wondering if I am the only one on this situation, I have applied for a PAL/RPAL on late May and IT was received on June 12th. It says on the web that initial processing hasard been done since July's end. I called on the 92th day after the received my application and they told me it was in the hands of my province's CFO and nothing has changed since. Is there anyone else from Québec who sent in their application around the same time or later who had better results.

Mine showed up online about 12 days ago.

Online tonight it says licence issued!!!

Ontario. No boxes checked. No references called.

Almost time to spend some money!!!!

My wife and I are 17 days in since applications were recieved at Miramichi and nothing yet, havent charge our cards yet...nothing. hoping for some movement this week. How do you know when it reaches the Provincial CFO? Will it say that online? Does the provincial CFO stage tend to be the longest wait period?

Thanks all.

I've been trying to black box this process, but there's isn't enough consistency in what happens. I would think that when they receive the application and charge your card they do a quick review to make sure everything looks alright. If so, it would be logical that it has "completed initial processing" at which point it gets set aside to complete the mandatory 28 day waiting period. At some point it will be passed to the CFO to do reference checks if they feel it's worth. Perhaps that's a random check, like crossing the border or something? If there are additional concerns that may increase the likelihood of reference checks?

The reality seems to be very disorganized. I suspect when it arrives it gets put in a "new application tray" which someone grabs, looks over, processes cards and then gets put into either a "need more info" try or a "send to CFO" tray. Once it gets to the CFO it sits in their tray until they look at it and decide what they want to do, reference checks, call to applicant, etc. From the random approval time frames, it doesn't appear to be a "first in - first out" order of processing or perhaps applications get sent to the wrong CFO or falls between file cabinets or something.

I suspect that the CFO is the longest waiting period as the first functions are pretty clerical, open application, look over, charge card / enter payment. At what point someone looks at the 5 year history I have no idea.

You wont know when it reaches the provincial CFO unless you call. Keep in mind that your application being sent to the provincial CFO is the last step before getting your licence issued, so it usually happens after the RCMP charges your card and does their due diligence. Im guessing mine sat with the RCMP for about a week and with the provincial CFO for roughly 2 weeks. M

17 days is a long time. Might be due to the influx of people applying or renewing for the hunting season.

17 days is not a long time at all. 28 is usually minimum for card to be charged & for it to appear online.

Typically it is 30 days or so for card to be charged. Recently it got fast, and some were done in 20-25 days with approval in 35-45 days.

Don't call in until at least 30 days.. you're wasting their time for sure. The guy who said 17 days is a long time for it to show up is crazy! Lol. Read the last 145 pages in this thread.. 17 days is not even close to a long time, and it is very normal to wait 30-40 for it to show up and 45-60 for it to be approved.

My credit card got charged five days after they received it. Approved in 38 days.

Fair enough... makes sense to wait at least the 28 day wait period. I guess i have been seeing posts of quick turn around times. Reality is these posts are likely a small fraction of the population who have gone through the process.

Patience is not always my friend :)

Thanks all for the feedback.

My timeline is approaching the 150 day mark quickly.

I quit calling on a weekly basis about a month ago. Same answer everytime I called.

Back in September I was told to give it another 3-4 weeks. So I did, I called back 3 weeks later. The rep told me to call next week for an update. Ok perfect! Called back only to be told to wait another month, and if I don't get an update after that they'll get me in contact with someone that can help get this resolved. I was told the CFO is very backed up, and that the applications are done in the order they're received, and that my application hasn't been there very long. (I guess mid August isn't very long) I asked about the service standard. It is indeed 45 days from when my application is received by the RCMP. So after that I decided to try my MP again. I gave his office a call, and spoke to some folks that remember be giving them a call 5-6 weeks prior. They were baffled that my application still hasn't been processed. So I got transferred around their office, and they do Infact have a form I can fill out that allows them to speak to the RCMP, CFO on my behalf. I wasn't given any type of time line from them, however they do want to get this sorted quickly as 5 months is a long time to wait. from reading up on it, it would appear the CFO acts fairly quickly once a MP gets involved.
