PAL Wait Time

I hope she was exaggerating!

I called the RCMP line first and they transferred me directly to the CFO. Spoke to a lady named Catherine? Who told me they were really busy but the file was with an officer in Toronto.

I was just calling to inquire a timeline as opposed to getting them to approve it.

Goodluck with your app! My colleague applied for it a week after me and she has her physical card now so you never know!

Unfortunately that incident that happened when you were 15 is coming back to bite you. The 5 year background check is a joke, they been going back to when you were born.

I'm not exactly going to jump on it right now, but at what point would it be reasonable to get my mp or my lawyer involved? Because I think that's just BS they shouldn't be delaying me because of relationship drama from when I was a kid, and I don't want to be one of those guys who waits a year and a half

My application got approved yesterday. I was told that they had 5000 applications on their queue and I wouldn't get my license until March. Luckily enough that didn't happen.

Application received on October 31st
Credit card charged on November 25th
License issue on January 13th

I'm in Ontario

Sounds like it was double flagged if it was sent to the local police for approval

Keep hammering them once a month, keep a detailed log of all your interactions with them. Forget about a lawyer, some MPs are helpful. Most of them aren't.

Pew pew time, did you ask for the licence number and expiry so you can start ordering online?

I guess i am going to be one of "those" guys that wait eons for the license to be approved.

March 21 2019. application received in Miramichi.
April 11 2019. CC charged - appears online
April 15 2019. Called in to make sure all was well. Was told looks good and picture waiting to be scanned.

At that point i was hopeful that maybe this would not take too long. But alas, i still wait.
Sometime in June 2019 i call CFO. told it would be "at least" two more months.
Call CFO in October. Was told CFO is going over my file. Checking over statement i included with the app.

(no violence on CPIC. Just a theft charge from early 1980's. so almost 40 years ago)
(1 box checked for anxiety in 2007. Kind of regretting checking yes. only did because i still take minor meds for it. But otherwise no anxiety since 2011)

I check online once a week and still says it is "in progess". I have NDP MP so do not expect much help there. Will call CFO again in February. The one thing i wonder about, if they pulled the police record from Vancouver Police.
Did VPD give them the correct file? I guess there is someone with similar name to me. Found that out a few years ago when i had to get a clearance for work. I pick it up from VPD and was surprised to see recent charges.
Questioned it and yes, they gave me the wrong record. They rushed a new one out and when i picked it up it was as it should be, blank.

I mentioned the VPD mix up to the phone person at CFO during the October call. Not sure if they record / make notes of what is said during the call. Could be helpful if they did.

I did call them and got my PAL # but wasn't given the expiry date. The person on the phone said that my license is yet to be printed out and told me that I cannot buy a firearm until the physical license has arrived.#

I told her that I wanted the number so I could enroll a shooting range as a member and she said that I wasn't supposed to use firearms until I have my license in hand...

Has anyone here purchased a gun online before getting the PAL in the mail? How does it work?

I can't speak to that personally but I have heard of many people online who have bought guns before having their physical license in hand

Your expiry is your birthday day/ 2025.

Order online, don't take it out of the house until you have the physical card in hand.

Called CFP today to get the expiry date and yes, you were right, it's my birthday/2025.

It wasn't a waste though, I was told that my card was printed yesterday and should be in the mail.

I just found out that buying a handgun requires a waiting period of 3-4 weeks for the transfer to clear. I'll place an online order so that while waiting for the card to come in the mail, the transfer will be in progress.

I might buy a non-restricted rifle online but that will depend on the budget.

Sweet! You should have your card in hand in about a week. I was referring to NRs.

For Restricted Ontario wait times right now are 4-6 weeks, your first purchase will be like 2-3 months!

I bought a handgund and was told by the store that they submitted my transfer yesterday late afternoon. By the time the transfer clears I'll have my card and probably a non-restricted

Called into Ontario CFO office again... They were very professional, and courteous on the phone, and didn't mind if I call in a bunch of times.. :) She also said that it's in the final stages, and it shouldn't be much longer...

When I asked her what "not much longer" meant... She said she didnt know :p... DANG!

PAL to RPAL upgrade.

Sent in the paper work as registered mail, they received it on December 23. My credit card was charged January 9, and my application was processed/completed on January 16.
Even the lady I spoke to on the phone seemed surprised by how quick it was.

Location is Alberta.

Update

Received my license in the mail today. Went to the store and got 2k rounds of 9mm. Now it's just wait for my transfer to be approved and hit the shooting range.

Meanwhile, I bought a non restricted, which will be delivered tomorrow. Needless to say that I'm now broke lol

Same issue with me.
Lady at the Ontario CFO office said there was a hit from a driving incident.
No dui, no speeding charge.
Looks like they look at everything
